You can also try Another, Shiki, Hellsing Ultimate, Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue, Hell Girl, Highschool of the Dead, Guilty Crown, Fate/Zero (Although you'd probably have to see Fate/Stay Night first), Darker Than Black, and Madoka Magica, unless you've already seen some of these.

For those animes you listed i recommend Mirai Nikki (it's about future diaries) or Steins gate(it's about time travel) they both have bits of murder and sadness in them. Pretty good plots and about 26 episodes a piece.

Is mirai nikki the one where their phone diaries predict the future? If so then I wasn't a fan of that one. I watched five episodes and couldn't continue.

Yes, it starts a little slow and eventually gets better.

Steins gate is a lot slower, but the back and forth dialogue is a good laugh. It really starts picking up around episode 12ish.
