alot of these are real, so its not really a joke as much as a "hey thats a bad cover"

This is a very bad cover song... Atleast its bad compared to the original, everybody has their opinion.

Avril Lavigne- Knocking on heaven's door.

The orchestral cover of Enter Sandman.

EDIT: Oh, an actuallly GOOD cover would be Shout 2000 by Disturbed. And a hilarious cover of Down With the Sickness by Lounge Against the Machine, as mentioned above.

"Summer Breeze" and/or "Cinnamon Girl" by Type O Negative

And "Down with the Sickness" by Lounge Against the Machine or whatever - is that the one that was on the new Dawn of the Dead?

Blind Guardian - Mr. Sandman
Blind Guardian - Surfin' USA

They were good covers, but they never should have happened.

Nice, you have Pain's Elanor Rigby up there already :)

How about:
Enjoy the Silence - Lacuna Coil
Have a Cigar - Primus
Johnny Cash - Rowboat (ya, that's a Beck song) Fuck it, any covers the man in black did are pretty out there
Stay - Cradle of Filth (indeed, it is the song of 1991 fame)
Burn in Hell - Dimmu Borgir
School's Out - GWAR

...and who could forget the System of a Down Zelda theme

Are you looking for suggestions because of the contrast of the musicians? My friend, look no further than Cream. I don't think they wrote but 1 original song (the goofiest one on the album) and everything else they played was written by downtrodden black guys 20-30 before they recorded it. They, being uptight middle class white British dudes.

Of course, look how many people Identify those songs with the 'Cover band' now

Heh. Unusual covers, eh?

Anrgy Inch by Type O Negative (originally from the movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch)
Knowledge by The Aquabats (originally by Operation Ivy)
The entire Writer's Block album from Evergreen Terrace. Very metal covers of not so metal songs, including 'Maniac' (Michael Sembello, from the movie Flashdance), 'Zero' (Smashing Pumpkins), 'The Kids Aren't Alright' (The Offspring), and 'Mad World' (Tears for Fears AND Gary Jules).
Radio Gaga by Electric Six (originally by Queen)

I can think of plenty more, if you want, but this is a nice shortlist.

None of mine are real, though you could probably guess this.

Smack My ***** Up - Belle And Sebastian (but mainly Sebastian, obviously)
Operation Ground And Pound - Keane
A Comet Appears - Kasabian
Bob Dylan's 115th Dream - Muse
New Slang - Nine Inch Nails

Avril Lavigne's cover of Metallica's Fuel (at the 2003 MTV Icon show) reserved her a condo in Hell without air conditioning.
