Hello,

I would like to ask some Experienced WoW player for some info/advice.
To make a long story short, I like the mechanics within mmo's. However I always end up abandoning all of them that I have played. This is because the leveling is too easy.

Now with the release of Legion I have heard a lot positive reactions about it, from friends that either play wow or returned for legion. And I heard that a lot of positive changes came with legion.

So Has leveling become more challenging? Is there any threat of dying during leveling? How is the progression curve in relation to the difficulty curve?

I don't need Dark Souls difficulty, what I am looking for is a situation where I have to pay attention, and there is some of threat dying during leveling. So with that in mind Would I find that in the current Legion WoW?

I would be thankful for info/advice on this, thank you in advance.

PS.
I don't know if it might help however here is a list of the MMO's I used to play : Guild wars 1 and 2, Elder Scrolls Online, Wildstar (steam release) and Lineage (this was a looooong time ago).

Nope, nooooooope and nope once more. Here's a problem, the game must appeal to wide variety of people to be able to attain at least some user base. You just can't go "welp hardcore people need challenge" and make the leveling hard. Things don't work that way, you can't adjust difficulty in shared world and you can't scare off casual player base. They deal with this problem in the end game, where there is plenty of challenge IF you want it. I'm quite positive that you will NOT find a MMO with hard leveling. Even WildStar that was VERY vocal about their aim at hardcore made leveling more mellow experience. It didn't help them tho, as they STRONGLY overestimated appeal of super hardcore MMO for hardcore people.

Hmmmm well I guess then it's still not a game for me, oh well. And I totally understand that you cannot exclude a large portion of the playerbase. However going in to complete opposite where 90% of the content is cake walk, is not healthy either, in my opinion. However Now I am sidetracking and that is a discussion for another day ;). Still hope here might be hardmode servers one day, one can dream ^^.

Mabye its my class but I have never died questing, (playing as Paladin mind you)

Dungeons can be a bit challeging but even on Normal and Heroic they can be easy so long as the 5 party members now what they are doing, Mythic is where the real difficulty is but even than its all the same mechanics.

Raids...don't let LFR fool you doing the real way where you enter the instance itself and being unlearned of the mechanics can still wipe your whole raid and Bosses are really challegeing still. And no one I mean NO ONE likes a wipe, just one wipe and a bunch of impatient fucks leave, as if they have not heard of Trial and Error. I know guilds in the olden days that wiped 100s of times at one boss.

Leveling is wow version of a tutorial (well most mmo really). The game (from a gameplay point of view) doesn't even begin until you reach max level, if you want challenge in mmo you need to get to max level and find a raiding guild (be ready to sink upward of 10 hour in the game if you want to tackle the challenging stuff seriously).

Maybe try a permadeath nudist run, might make things more interesting.

No.

Anything can happen, but generally no. Biggest cause of death is falls from shortcuts.

WoW's progression curve is entirely end-focused, and initially you'll run into a lot more time gating than genuine back-breaking difficulty.

WoW is a curious game in that it has an exceptionally low skill floor...one of the lowest in non-casual gaming...and one of the highest skill ceilings. But the high skill ceiling stuff is all at the very, very high end. Mythic raiding, and Mythic + dungeons with high modifiers. PvP being anomalous and containing unpredictable/unreliable difficulty. You can "create your own difficulty" by doing content while under-leveled/under-geared, but other than the masochistic pleasure of challenge there's no real benefit to doing this.

During leveling? Not really.

WoW is certainly one of those games where if you don't take any risks, there's no chance of dying.

Leveling has never been the point of WoW. The challenge lies at endgame dungeons or ranked PvP, not with leveling. However some classes do struggle with leveling a little due to the way mobs scale to your character level now.

But if you are looking for a leveling challenge in an MMO, this aint gonna do it for you.

If you're looking for a challenge in WoW, leveling isn't going to be where you'll find it. Nor do I really see the point, all MMOs are about the end game, you don't want to grind peoples faces into the dirt while leveling because it serves no purpose other than frustration. WoW has 110 levels now, if you made leveling a massive challenge it would be a massive pain the arse.

Not sure if it's your kind of game, but have you considered Final Fantasy XIV Online? It's also subscription based, bou can do a free trial to check it out.

What I like about FFXIV, is that it lets me enjoy leveling up. I haven't actually played WoW since WotLK, but in FFXIV, you get to do challenges as you level in form of dungeons and boss battles. It's a lot of fun, and if you care, the story is quite good (but you can just skip that, if you prefer). There are many ways to level up in FFXIV, which certainly helps you from not getting bored. There *is* endgame to do in FFXIV as well, but you can have tons of fun doing a lot of various gameplay while leveling up. The system lets you use 1 character for many classes, then you can switch around as you'd like once you level them, at your own pace. I wouldn't say it's particularly challenging, but you can do quests higher than your level for a harder time (although there is a cap on quest vs your level).

@elvor0 - Your avatar is super cute.

WoW is a game that BEGINS once you hit max level, so obviously the focus has never been on making leveling difficult. Leveling is nothing more than a brief phase between expansions to give an excuse for increasing numbers. Think of it like an introduction or prelude.

All the challenging content in WoW revolves entirely around running dungeons and raids at higher difficulties (heroic/mythic), which you can only do after reaching max level. Leveling played a bigger role back in vanilla WoW (2004-2007) but was just a pure grind/timesink, so not true difficulty.
