I've been trying several MMORPGs for the past months, but i just can't seem to find one that really hooks me. So far i've tried Champions Online, Fallen Earth and Age of Conan.

I have played Guild Wars, Lineage II, WoW, Aion, Guild Wars and Warhammer Online, but i ended up boring myself up. Still i kind have this itch to play an MMO.

Can you point me out? Should i retry some of the above, or is there other MMOs out there that im missing and should try out? Anything different than the standard MMO is also welcome.

Thanks :)

Have you considered All Points Bulletin (APB)? Looks like some interesting concepts and there seems to be a fair bit of talk surrounding it. Could be a total flop though, who knows?

Age of Conan has improved alot
Warhammer isnt much
Fallen Earth is shit
Guild Wars is meh
Lineage 2 is quite dated now
WoW is the most polished and has the most players (Quality over quantity..)
Champions is ok if you like that sort of thing
Global Agenda is more of a TF2 style MMO and doesnt feel much like an MMO
Diablo 2 you can sort of count as an MMO and I suppose if you like hack & slash its great fun

Trying to think of other MMOs

I'd recommend WoW.

I would ask what brings you to MMO's, why do you want to play one?

If you can find that you will have an easier time find one you like if you know what it is that you like about them.

Are you looking to socialize with other?
Are you looking to get phat loot?
Are you looking to kill n00bs?
Are you looking for intensive story? (Its rare in MMO's)

Maybe check out LOTRO. I think their pvp angle is pretty fun. I spent more time playing as a mob than playing as my main toons.

Additionally, WoW has the center of attention and for that I would recommend staying away from it. (My disdain for the game aside.) One of my closest friends has had his main account hacked 4 times and his second account hacked twice shortly after. Has been banned from WoW during his main account hack, but got it lifted. Now, his second account is under investigation for eGolding.

Now if you knew this guy all claims fall throught he floor. He is your average "Always behind in quests and crap to do" player. He doesn't hack/buy-sell gold or anything. Plus he is more tight lipped than I am with his passwords if allowed one. He won't even tell his wife his passwords he will just auto save them but if they ever need retyping, he will do it.

All of this makes me look at WoW and go "Wow, you guys must be fighting hacks so bad if this dude is getting harassed over it."

Just saying... He called me last night bitching about it and said he was quitting for good this time.

Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2!

IF YOUR NOT ENJOYING IT YOUR NOT DOING IT RIGHT >:O

Nah. But I see you already tried GW 1, personally I loved the 8 skill bar set, but its not for everyone. However, if you want to wait, Guild Wars 2 looks to be epic.

Or Diablo 3.

Aion sucked : /

I have tried LOTRO too, but i was coming from WoW and it was a bit strange, maybe i will try it again once it goes free.

I like MMORPG, but at this time they all feel "the same", i want something diferent on that genre, and i know there are tons of non-comercial MMO's, maybe i will try that Global Agenda.

I charish a good community, that is important for me in a MMO.

Thanks for your input! :)

I didn't like the fact that the open world was instanced :(
Any release date for GW2 btw?

How is the Diablo 2 community at this moment? Is it worth it to come back after all this years. I like Diablo quite a bit :)

No release date for GW2, but it won't be instanced like GW 1 was. Infact the game is going to have very little quests and grinding, its worth reading about on the website, I'm really excited.

Knowing Blizzard games, I would imagine Diablo 2 still has a large player base, granted everyone has probably beaten it at this point =]

Yeah, i have heared quite a few stories like that. Overall i "kinda" enjoyed WoW for some time, but the community just became sour and sour. I always have this urge to go back, but when i do i always get disapointed

@nhgifnd

Have heared much about that game, maybe will try it out, is it grindy?

Yeah so did he. I think this was actually the last straw for him.

Oh yeah City of Heroes/Villains too. The combat mechanics in that game are great. (actually the best combat model I have seen in any MMO I have played. Made by the same people as Champions online. The PvP is pretty unmotivated in there but cool. If you play a controller you actually CAN take over another PC's charactor. Cryptic also had a hand in Star Trek Online. I have heard decent stuff about it.

I tend to be a bit of a fanboy of Cryptic.

Champions Online has the best character creator of all MMOs, no chance! But i got a bit bored after a while, i wish the game had more content, because i love the game setting and combat gameplay.

I'm only really familiar with Aion and WOW.. I can say if they pull their fingers out, NCSoft can do some *wonderful* things with Aion - During my tenure there it was alright, albeit a little lackluster, until of course level 50 (Max) where the endgame content consisted of running pvp battles or a singular instance. And grinding it for good loots was useless due to nothing ever dropping. Ever. A recent update has added a fair bit of new content but it has a ways to go yet, sadly.

WOW of course needs no explanation.. Its the staple of the genre, really.

I played EVE Online too - I loved the game, don't get me wrong, but.. I see that more as spreadsheets in space than an MMORPG these days lol

I'd try Runescape, as it can be free, and (I think it is anyway) unique.

Or maybe you just don't like MMORPG's.

Perhaps MMORPGs are too sprawling 'n what not? I, personally really enjoy the MMORPG, Fiesta. To me, at least, it feels like World of Warcraft, but much simpler. Its in small, but well-developed environments with only a few classes that it does pretty well. Despite the uncomplicated nature of the game, I still find the gameplay much more stimulating than other MMORPGs because you have to juggle things pretty well; monsters hit hard, and you really need to use your entire skill arsenal in order to survive being swarmed by more than one or two mobs. Which happens a lot. Its pretty, free, and it has one of the friendliest communities in any MMORPG I've ever played.
A bit of a goldspammer problem, though.

There's also Perfect World, an MMORPG popular in central Asia. Its freakin' huge, did the "OMG FLYING!!1!" thing years before Aion, and has the most epic-looking mounts you have ever seen. There's eight classes and several races, but if you want to play the class that's like the hunters in WoW, you gotta play a cat-girl.

Another MMORPG I like is Lunia. Its what it says on the box: an "MMO arcade game." You go through the story levels with other players in groups of four, and can mingle en masse in the hometowns. Again, its simple, but it is fun and, as an action game, actually relies on your skill.

Or perhaps you're like me, a person who likes the idea of exploring new worlds and playing new games more than committing to any one title.
In that case, don't ever let yourself feel obligated to an mmorpg, especially if you haven't paid a subscription. They're just games; only play them when you want to experience that specific gameplay.
