How about something old to instead? Have you ever played System Shock 2? It is a great game. It's a little old but still amazing. Even Yahtzee liked System Shock 2.

ah, well personally I find it hard to bring myself to play RPGs on anything but handhelds so if you're looking for that I'd suggest you check out the DS's library.
>_< no, I'm not much help for on topic, am I? But anyways, if you can, definitely check out what the DS has because it excels in that category
I do not want, nor can I afford a DS, hence why this thread is about PC games ;)

I'm enjoying Supreme Commander 2 right now. Good RTS. The new Command and Conquer comes out prety soon too, if it's not out already...
I hate Supreme Commander 2 @.@

(and the new CC has crappy DRM. Also my memories fuzzy on this one, but no LAN. =[ )

Seems you like the same games as i do. If you want to try empire building: go try Anno.
Total War is a pretty good RTS.
The STALKER series is an excellent choice for fps/rpg.
Deus Ex 2 you might wanna try. It's nowhere as good as 1 was, but it looks better.
I totally support getting System Shock 2 with mods for better gfx. But that game is so old, your probably better off looking for a pirated version on the net since it isn't sold anywhere these days.

Yeah...but that is a great RTS, in my opinion. Very big wars. Very nice support effects. :)

An interesting RTS, if you're not into them is Men of War. That sentence may make no senee, but trust me, I wasn't an RTS fan, then I went and played that game and was amazed. You should be able to find it pretty cheap as it's relatively unknown and underrated. My favourite feature of the game is being able to tell each soldier to loot other dead soldiers, helmet gets shot off his head? Go grab another. Run out of ammo, or grenades? Go grab another! You can even take full control of a unit as a top-down shooter kind of style. Very fun.

As for RPG/FPS's most of my recommendations have been said or you've already played!

I'm not particularly into RTS games but as I mentioned before I have Shadow of Chernobyl and enjoyed it. As I haven't already mentioned I LOVE valve's games to an extent that borders on unhealthy, so I've played through Half-Life, Half-Life 2 and the episodes more times than I care to remember XD

Metro 2033 looks great but I doubt my system would run it with no problems, I'm on an Intel Core 2 Duo with Windows XP, 2GB RAM and a GeForce 9500 GT and it struggles with the higher graphic settings on some older games, so yeah >_<
Yeah, you definitely couldn't play it on a 9500. BUT, Torchlight is playable even on netbooks. Definitely, definitely, play Torchlight, or at least play the demo.

BC2 has been incredibly fun for me lately and I think anyone who can appreciate a good War game would enjoy it. If you want RPG I would definitely suggest Mass Effect 2.
