Wow... this thread got ugly fast. Though it is nice to see arguments for both sides. After all, who doesn't love death threats?

I think it is just reviewers nerd baiting to get views / attention. It happens with every big movie, there is a certain set of people who will always go out and claim it is the biggest piece of garbage they ever saw. Instead of just saying meh it was ok, I personally didn't find it to be that great they shift gear and start trashing it because meh reviews don't get attention.

Or it was just a "meh" review, and the fans blew it out of proportion? Like what happens all the time?

I think I'm missing something here. Death threats as a response to a low rating is the norm?

No one "asks" to be receive death threats. If a review has merit, and plenty of solid points, than The Dark Knight Rises should not be above criticism. No movie is above judgment, and if some people cannot handle this, then they should step in the fire.

But to say "I hope you die" is absolutely fucking pathetic. It's a movie for fuck sake. It's not like she said "I'd rather go to a concentration camp than watch this film" or something that could actually warrant hatred.

Saying that I cant be sure is just bull obviously I cant be officially sure due to it releasing in 3 days but its not going to be bad.....just a educated guess.

Seriously, this happens with far more movies than just this and Toy Story 3. It's just that it doesn't get to this scale. It's only a news item because it'll be sure to draw more hits when it's about The Dark Knight Rises and not, say, Moonrise Kingdom. Far more people will see the former, and far more people care about the former, so it makes sense to report (for hits) only when it happens (on an admittedly larger scale) to the former.

I haven't read the review and honestly don't plan to. When I go to see DKR it'll be mainly because my siblings want to go. I'm going into this one knowing that I'm probably not going to like it but at least the football stadium part looks pretty cool. As for the death threats...just stupid. It's only a movie after all.

This is what happens when people identify themselves too strongly with branding and products. They take disliking something like this movie and see it as an attack against them as an individual because they associate themselves so heavily with it.

This might be true. How else can you explain this sort of vicious fanaticism... religion, perhaps. Well, I'm sure some people do worship franchises as a surrogate or proxy for a deity.

If this woman is indeed a terrible reviewer (and judging what you've told me, she is), she will have to answer to her editor in chief, and maybe she will lose her job. If there are legitimate complaints sent in by readers, she will be reprimanded, it's how it works in any print industry, internet or paper.

That being said, NO ONE SHOULD EVER THREATEN ANYONE WITH DEATH OVER A MOVIE REVIEW. If she came to your house, raped your parents and killed your pets, fine: threaten her to death and beat her up.
But she is just a movie reviewer, the world will keep on turning regardless of what she says, and The Dark Knight Rises will still make a pretty buck at the box-office. Even if a movie is legimately bad (Twilight, Transformers, Battle Ship), it still manages to make money, because people who want to see the movie will still see it.

I am seeing The Dark Knight Rises this weekend, I am looking forward to it, and I don't need any reviewer to tell how I should enjoy it. I take reviews as guidelines, but not fact.

If you agree with the people throwing death threats around, simply because she sucks at her job, than you are truly a despicable human being, no better than the death threat commenters.

Personally I disagree with Moviebob on almost everything, and I think that he is terrible at his job, but I am not posting death threats in every forum thread he makes. Because that is insane. I simply disagree, shrug and walk away. I think you should do the same.
