You could just not respond. I mean, the person was already kind enough to indicate to you that he's not worth attempting to have a conversation with.

Whenever someone refers to me or someone else around me as a nerd in a derogative manner, this is exactly what I respond with:
"'Nerd' is a word used by idiots in a sad attempt to belittle anyone who is smarter than the person who called that person a nerd in the first place."
Which is usually followed by looks of dumbfoundedness as they try to process that many words simultaneously.

Once I checked out a vid on a movie video and saw a hater saying this "I only watch like 3 videos a week". So I calculated his watched videos against the date he arrived on YouTube and found it was something like 12 per day. Shunned him off the thread.slowpoke999 said:

1) When people call other people nerds in these sorts of contexts, they are saying that they have clearly put enough of their effort and lives into it to be considered nerds.
2) People calling other people nerds very rarely have enough information about the person they're calling a nerd to be sure that what they're saying is accurate. It is even more rare that they care.
