this is a small nit pick but don't you think they could have updated the graphics at least a bit

I can't understand the comments about how FO3 was "empty". My problem was that there were too many places to go. The illusion of a desolate wasteland got somewhat ruined. Loved it anyway and at least it wasn't broken like FO2. I really hope New Vegas brings the best from old and new Fallout. That would be seriously sweet.

I can't wait to play Fallout: New Vegas. It looks like a really good game and I think it will be good. The best advice I can give is rent the game first and see if you enjoy it or not. Most games that I have bought are because I rented them first and found out that I joyed them.

Fallout 3's gameplay with Fallout 2's humour and vibe...

I just come in my pants every time I think about it.

I would LOVE to see the love child of Fallout 2's story and atmosphere and Fallout 3's gameplay. FO2 was too dated for me to truly enjoy playing it, but there was a great game underneath all that dust. I hope New Vegas lives up to what a great set of writers (Sawyer, Avellone, Urquhart) and a great gameplay designer (Todd Howard) can do when they join forces.

I know Howard's not directly involved with this project, but metaphorically speaking he built the car and now Obsidian gets to drive it.
I agree with this guy.

I'm actually looking forward to it. The things that pissed me off most in Fallout 3 were all the damn bugs, but Obsidian doesn't have a good track record with that either. I loved fallout 3, I just hope New Vegas is just a much more improved Fallout 3. That's all it needs to be for me, really.

I, personally, like the sound of the companion wheel.

Having seen everything outside of DLC that Fallout 3 has to offer, there is one thing that really bugs me, and that is that companions are useless except for Fawkes.

Honestly, every other one of them is too vulnerable and not intelligent enough to keep their health going without constant attention. It's like taking a baby to the battlefield.

I would prefer a companion that thinks for themselves, heals themselves, and just ask for a Stimpack now and then when I have a surplus compared to my Strength stats or my overall Hit Points, and they're running out of their supply. But the companion wheel, in theory, makes tricky and buggy AI programming unnecessary, giving control to me, which is the next best thing.

It's an improvement on Fallout 3's system, no matter how you look at it. It's not the best idea, but if you ask for a large chocolate milkshake and get a small vanilla one instead, it's usually better than getting nothing.

There's no way I'll avoid getting it if I can find it in an ordinary store. I just won't buy DLC, it's as simple as that. After all, the money probably won't be going to Bethesda, who totally alienated me with their sudden "costly DLC becomes free if you wait after the initial release" Game of the Year Edition nonsense.

Personally I'm pretty happy that Bethesda didn't develop New vegas. Fallout 3 was ok but it felt too much like a remake of the first two games and they copy/pasted the buildings and landscapes waaay too much. I really hope they make things more original.

I am just afraid that New Vegas will be a typical Obsidian title. Crammed full of good ideas, awesome storytelling and interesting characters and locations... And so broken that the Titanic seems whole in comparsion. KotOR2 was broken in the buggy-sense and so was NWN2 to some degree, but NWN2 also had some of the shoddiest storytelling I've ever seen. I wasn't invested in the story for the better part of my first 12 hours and that is a serious downside for a game that relies on its' story.

Basically this.

Obsidian just hasn't been able to get their act together for quite some time. I'm VERY skeptical about Alpha Protocol for this very reason. They mean well and have some great ideas that they want to try out, but every time they make a game, it's just an unfinished mess that should have stayed in development for at least a few more months.

Imagine how glorious KotOR2 would have been without the bugs, the unfinished story arcs and huge gaping holes of missing content in the ending sequence. That being said, every new Obsidian game that comes out, I keep praying that this is the one where they figure out how to turn their ideas into an actual game. If they were to manage that, they might have a chance at becoming the first real competition Bioware will have in the RPG branch in a LONG time...

But if this companion wheel lets me tell them to stop fucking running in front of my gun then getting pissed off when I shoot their asses off then I'll be happy.
That's been a feature of all fallout games.

At least in 3 the companions actually bother to take notice if you're between them and their target unlike previous titles... Without the AI patch for FO2 giving anyone an automatic weapon was asking to be cut to pieces.

I think the companion wheel is a great idea. Why? Because the ally AI in the first game was Pants on Head Retarded. They would charge randomly into battle, sometimes I would randomly get a message that Dogmeat died because he decided to pick a fight with a large group of raiders. Plus, the ability to heal them would be great, since you wouldn't have to load every damn time one of your allies died.

The companions in FO3 all sucked unless they got to the point where they were pretty much immortal (lol Fawkes), so any attempt to improve them is more than welcome. Whether or not it'll work... we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm cautiously excited about new vegas. Fallout 3 was solid in its own right, and certianly... expansive. But i felt that it suffered in several areas. Samey monster types, very few enemies with any sort of character (i want to meet the friendly super-mutant! how many enemies did you talk to before killing? like, 2 or 3?), very few large towns with a memorable feel to them (in fact, none other than rivet. the rest were all tiny). The main story was well-done, but all the other dungeons felt completely unimaginative.

I'm not sure how much of that new vegas can fix but hell, there's a chance of 'some of it'. And having gone for a cowboy/hick style aesthetic actually really interests me, gives a new slant on the world with plenty of room to explore.

All that said, if it crashes as often as fallout 3 did in its early days (about every 20 minutes on my machine, despite my best attempts to solve this) then i wont be there.

Brilliant!

I've had similar effects with Charon.

You still had to keep track of your companion in Fallout 3, and it was really hard in the middle of a firefight, so I welcome the idea of being able to issue commands, for example "run away" would be useful if they're about to collapse on the floor in a very dead way. It's going to be a whole lot easier than having to stop, put VATS on, flick to your companion, look at their health, cancel VATS (or accidentally shoot them in the head in many cases) and then run over to them with a stimpack.
