Things like this that are being created this early on in development somewhat worry me that the fallout 3 i enjoyed will be changed around a little too much for my liking. But it is still definitely too soon to tell, i may be wrong. Still, i wish Bethesda would be making this one as well. Thoughts?
Don't like change? Just play Fallout 3 again.

I'm welcoming any change because Bethesda are far from perfect, F3 was fun at times but could have been 2000x better.
The only thing Bethesda are good at is storytelling and this only applies for stuff away from the main story. I still hope New Vegas still has the same level of depth in the exploring and stories, any other change though couldn't be catastrophic.

The companion wheel is ALOT better. I mean have actually control over your characters and issuing specific commands. Besides, i don't know why you're making it such a big deal. Even if they do change the companion wheel, its not going to change the over-all game. If all you want them to do is follow you and shoot, set it to that option. And thats that.

All I'd need for this game is a graphical leap, and SOME GOD DAMN GOOD ANIMATIONS. I can't take any of the story lines seriously. Its hard when everyone looks so odd and their movements are stale and stiff. I can stand bad graphics, but if Fallout 3 had good graphics and animations, it could have been an even BETTER game.

It was really funny re-programing Harkness in The Replicated Man, cause when he was yelling, his arms were still crossed and his eyes remained fixed on me.

Oh that wasn't aimed at you. I've just met a lot of people who haven't even played it at all, or were crying and screaming before the game was even released. Obnoxious people who take any chance they can to go on massive rants about how their precious whatever company should be the only ones to ever touch their favorite franchise. I really want to strangle them because they're annoying, I hate annoying people. At least you tried the game before hating it.
Ah. Well, I agree. I went into Fallout III with a wide-eyed curiosity (even though I didn't enjoy Oblivion). I went out of it dead inside, but that's beside the point. Bitching about a game you haven't even tried seems unfair for the most part.
For some reason I like Oblivion more then Fallout 3. Probably the fact that Fallout 3 is so bland and empty. I know it's supposed to be, but fuck there's usually stuff to do in the old fallout games. In 3 there's like 20 quests prior to DLC and beyond that there's absolutely nothing. At least with oblivion it looked pretty.
But yeah, I can't stand people who don't play games and hate them, at least try the first level or something. Justify that hatred.
whoa whoa i didnt say anything about hating the game. I'm saying that i hope obsidian does well with it.

I think the companion wheel is a great idea. Why? Because the ally AI in the first game was Pants on Head Retarded. They would charge randomly into battle, sometimes I would randomly get a message that Dogmeat died because he decided to pick a fight with a large group of raiders. Plus, the ability to heal them would be great, since you wouldn't have to load every damn time one of your allies died.
thats why you don't use dogmeat, the only real companion i used was fawkes, because of the low maintenance standards. All you have to do is be a nice guy, and you get a handy moving backpack that implodes faces with gattling lasers

Dogmeat counts as an extra companion slot (Although you could just use the companion glitch to get as many as you want) so he's fine to use with anyone. Except he has that tendancy to die.

Fawkes is fine if you're good, but you get him late in the game, and he can easily steal your kills an XP. I prefer Charon, as he's got a lot of health, good range, strong without being too strong, and he's just cool.

...plus Charon doesn't care if you're good or bad and can wear powered armor way before you can.

this is a small nit pick but don't you think they could have updated the graphics at least a bit
They still might. I don't know if you can take the screenshots they are showing now as final products. They've still got half a year to tweak it. I saw a version of Borderlands [http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/a-better-view-of-borderlands-new-look/] half a year out that wasn't cel shaded. It made me think it was a totally different game when I saw the cel shaded version.

Fallout 3's gameplay with Fallout 2's humour and vibe...

I just come in my pants every time I think about it.
No wonder you play Fallout so often. ;)

Thanks for the link to the video. I have to say the companion wheel looks handy. The dialog tree to get to your companion's inventory was a bit cumbersome to me.

But don't worry too much. I'm sure there are things we'll all have to get used to, but hopefully they will be designed with the player in mind.

Fallout 3 was a joke compared to the other 2 (3 counting f:tactics) games. I STRONGLY recommend playing the first one. If you have trouble finding it then go to GoodOldGames.

Exactly. It looks like most the changes are just adding additional functions and/or details to what's already there and the companion system needed the most added to it. As it was, you just let them loose and hope they survive long enough to get your loot home. I actually like all of the additions I've heard about. Vehicles, gun mods, reputation, and hardcore all sound like great additions.

As long as they still make the exploration interesting and rewarding, I'll be very satisfied.

i wish Bethesda were making this one as well, they did a brilliant job with fallout 3 and it's one of my favourite games of all time too. Hopefully, it will be good but it could be quite hard to make the game as good as fallout 3 without copying it somewhat

I don't have any worries about this game being as good as 3. The company of Obsidian is actually mainly comprised of people who created the original fallout 1&2. I think that adding a little bit of the old school gameplay such as the reputation system back into the game can only work to benefit the game.

Companion wheel, eh? I guess I *might* just have a slightly different play-style then y'all. Especially in Fallout 3 I just tended to go solo throughout the game. Sure, I may be missing stuff by not delving into companions, but I just sorta found the environment so engrossing when it's just little ol' you by yourself in a vast nuclear wasteland.

On New Vegas, I haven't looked too much into it but I expect it to keep up with the standards of the other Fallout games. At least, I sure hope it does. I'd hate to be disappointed in that regards.

I just think this game looks too copied and pasted, just with some different colors thrown in, from Fallout 3. That's good if you were a fan of Fallout 3, which I wasn't. Not a bad game, just not my thing.
