Did you know that the PS1 wouldn't exist if it weren't for the SNES? Sony was working with Nintendo to make a CD-based addon to the SNES, but it fell through. The PS1 exists for the same exact reason the Philips CD-i exists.
I believe this is the same reason the Final Fantasy franchise jumped ship. I guess they'd been banking on that CD addon because they knew cartridges wouldn't cut it for FFVII.

Man, if they'd taken their chances with the CD-i instead of the PS1, the phenomenal success of FFVII might well have saved the console. That, or the spectacular financial failure of FFVII, due to either the CD-i's awful controls or the simple fact that very few people owned one, would have sunk Square all over again.
And to add another layer to that entire shitstorm of a deal Sony had to go through with Nintendo, the only reason the CD-i Mario and Zelda games exist is because Phillips started working with Nintendo on a CD add on like Sony was (actually the reason Nintendo ended the deal with Sony which came back to haunt them) and had a contract that allowed them to use Nintendo characters. Also from what I understand after Nintendo screwed Phillips over (see a pattern here? lol) Phillips used the prototypes to help design the CD-i, so in essence by being asses and overconfident, Nintendo helped launch two competitors, one that was a horrible failure and the other that almost put them out of business had it not been for Pokemon coming along.

NES/SNES and PS1 are hard to compare. The NES/SNES graphics looks better today but at the time they were far behind the PS1. Today though PS1 graphics looks mostly terrible.
I'm still gonna go with PS1. It was a revolution in console gaming and it had a lot of really good games like Tekken 3, THPS 1/2(3/4), FF 7 and 9, SoulEdge/SoulBlade, MGS and a literal fuck-ton more. And probably my favourite controller ever, PS1 without the analogs. Far ahead of the NES controller and, imo, better than the SNES one.

the OP makes a good point here. The (S)NES games have their own 2d bitty bit retro charme, PS1 old 3D just looks like bad 3D, like cellphonegame 3D.

<color=purple>I have played a looot of nintendo, tho I dont really remember much of my NES gaming. But I never played too much of my PS1. Mainly because i got it not long before the PS2 came out and i bought one of those. Id say The old Nintendos leave a better impression on me.

Can't choose...Too hard.

Oh wait.

The PS1 had Legend of Mana...We have a winner.
The SNES had Secret of Mana.
Legend was better...your point is? Legend was open before open was cool
Most people say the opposite, that Secret was better. That is my point.
Most people also say that FF7 is better than FF9.

PSX

A lot of what was good on the SNES was ported to the PSX, and because the SNES couldn't handle the 3D games that were made of win on the PSX, they couldn't port them back.

The PSX played SNES games worse than the SNES though. Does anyone actually prefer the PSX version of Chrono Trigger? Besides, shouldn't ports be credited to their original system?
Yes, I preferred the PSX version. I also preferred the gameboy version over both of them. The reason I preferred it for the PSX was that the PSX had other games to make an argument for the system. I could get a system with games I didn't enjoy so much and play Chrono Trigger, or I could get a system with lots of games I enjoyed and play a slightly inferior version of Chrono Trigger which, as I never played the SNES version, made no difference to me.

There was no Gameboy version of Chrono Trigger, you probably mean the DS version. Yeah, that's certainly the superior version but at the end of the day, Chrono Trigger is an SNES game.

You do know that the PSX version of Chrono Trigger suffered from ridiculous load times don't you? The SNES version did not (obviously being cartridge based).
So? Lots of PSX games have load times. It's something you grow accustomed to.

Is there a specific library you'd rather play? @ Rowdy
Y'know you could've just quoted him, right?.

OT: I'd take a PS1 over a SNES any day.

NES and SNES. I had more games I truly loved for those consoles. No knock on the Playstation, but it's not even a hard choice.
