Basically the corporations are trying to control the internet again. Email your politicians. Save the net.

Well Jim isn't best source of this news since he is pretty incompetent in this regard but he has heart where it needs to be on this topic.
Truth to be told the loss of net neutrality is just a matter of time, while defending it people should work on their local legislators/states to remove entry barriers of new ISPs on market. Things like state enforced ban on sole ownership of entire available infrastructure in given area, ban on accumulating both infrastruture and services delivered via infrastructure in hands of one company/corporation/trust, ban on any financial ties between content and services creating companies and ISP, state supported programmes for building and modernising infrastructure in underdeveloped regions (with lease time to return the investment of the private company then going back into state hands) etc.
Basically we have a situation in which some of big corporations blackmail other big corporations holding consumers hostage, alternative is turning market to milk farms for customers or just blackmailing taking opposite direction, while still consumers being held hostage.

In short, states need to decimate huge comapnies like google, facebook etc. on the one side and ISPs on the other side - both are in position of 'natural' monopoly and that has to be dealt with sooner or later.

I don't think any of the YT commentators present this point of view. However defending net neutrality will look iteration after iteration more like landing on Char up until Raynor shows up. There are some serious, precise, shattering strikes needed to remove the source of lacking or non-existent competition on what suppose to be 'free' market.

I don't know why everyone has a hate-boner for Jim but he's usually pretty darn right. The only problem with him is, his theatrics get to be too much. He often metaphorically makes himself look like a clown for pretty much no reason that I can see.

I think net neutrality should be a given if for no other reason than to ensure equal competition among these companies and corporations. You know, the kind of thing that's supposed to be fostered in a fucking capitalist market?

Well less that, and more he actively trolled people on the Escapist, and stirred up controversy worse than MovieBob. The dude is basically just a shock comedian who likes video games.
He's like Milo in that he actively tries to piss people off and get a rise out of them.

I'm pretty sure Jim wouldn't disagree with this statement.

Well except for the parts where Milo actively encourages violence against others, promotes bigotry, racism, and sexism, and has publicly stated that pedophilia is fine... sure, they're exactly the same. I mean, you're pretty much the exact same as noted White Supremacist Richard Spencer because you also engage in political discussions on online forums. Aren't equivalencies such fun? :D

well...Jim did say it was okay to dox people who disagreed with him, and that it was okay to dox anyone who supported #GamerGate.

Also you don't know how equivalencies and context work, do you? I said "He's like Milo in that he actively tries to piss people off and get a rise out of them"
Now the 'in that' part is the qualifier, meaning that I'm not saying they're exactly alike, just in this specific case that I'm about to lay out. See, you have to read the entire sentence and know sentence structure.
You'll get there one day!

Yeah, I'm gonna need a source on that one. And as to trolling, so freaking what? If he does it, it's because people can't learn to just ignore someone. It's quite sad really.

Yeah, here ya' go. Sessler and Sterling on a panel, Sessler says the 1st amendment protects his rights to try to find your name and address and publish it if he doesn't like you, and Jim agrees.

Let go of that anger. We will all be much happier if we can just get along and prance about in a big field of flowers.

Got it. Yeah, that was clearly a joke by Adam Sessler. What he's trying to say though, and what Jim agrees with is that the first amendment does not protect you from criticism. Furthermore, Jim's gotten doxxed in the past and he clearly didn't agree with it. lol

OH! My bad. Yeah, see I just assumed Sessler said something, and Jim agreed. I didn't know I was supposed to assume they were lying about it.

And yeah Jim got doxxed, which sucks, but the fact he wasn't happy about it plus the video is one of the reasons he's infamous.

As I said, Jim doesn't do a great job of his presentation really to say the least so he really didn't do himself any favors there.

He really does struggle, that's true. If he was joking about Doxxing, then that's that, but for years I and a lot of people thought he was just a hypocrite.

I was referring to his apparent lack of legal and economic education, that holds him back from putting any insight into this of his own. How on earth you came to conclusion that the post is hateful is beyond me. Or you are one of these 'fans', that watch everything of person you decided to glorify on your knees.
Jim isn't perfect and isn't really suited for this topic but I like him and most of his content.

Wow, the first reply derailed the thread. Great.

Anyway, fuck everyone who's trying to kill Net Neutrality. The only real defenses I've seen of this course of action is "fuck the government/corporations will do the right thing" because some people have such an unreasonable hate boner for the government they probably want the police and fire departments to be privatized (because privatizing things goes SO well) and "I don't care." So yeah, there's zero actual defenses for this. I'd say that this is a party line thing, except it really isn't. Over 70% of Americans on BOTH sides of the political spectrum think Net Neutrality is a good idea.
