It may surprise some of you, but even though video games are undoubtedly awesome, there are still some people who haven't played any! **GASP** It's our duty as gamers to show these poor, blind people what they've been missing out on.

Today I got my Mum to play her first video game. Tetris. Her first attempt is in the spoiler.

I feel so proud. Like a parent recording their child's first steps :D

I only explained to her the basic controls (and had to remind her numerous times) but to see her slowly understand the game was quite amazing.

Have you ever introduced anyone to video games?

I haven't introduced anyone to video games. I did play an important part on getting one person to pick up gaming again after about 20 years of thinking it was not really something for a grown man to do. Now he's been buying games for the last few months on a more furious rate that I've never been.

I got my little sister (Age 7) and brother (Age 5) to play Sonic Generations a while ago. It was a fun hour and 6 levels.

I taught my mum how to play Minesweeper. Then she played it all the time and beat my scores.

I've met a few people who have never played video games, and I never really tried to force it on them.

Because imagine this scenario: You've never read a book. Someone tells you "You've never read a book? Well here, read this one. It's pretty easy to read and it's one of my all time favorites."

You have just read Twilight.

I'm terrified of doing the video game equivalent of that to someone.

A few years ago I got that sick of me ma saying that she'd never play a video game that I bought her a DS for her birthday.

She's now hooked on brain training and Prof Layton!

Taught my nephew to play games when he was like 3. Was rough at first, but once he figured out how to walk around he was never able to put any game down lol (his parents must hate me for that. His first game was final fantasy 3 for the DS.

I have introduced my friend to games that aren't made by Zynga. I feel like I made a positive difference in the world.

I tried to get my mom to play Halo. She spent the first 10 minutes staring at the ceiling, then started spinning around so fast she got dizzy and had to stop.

Then I had my dad play Portal. What really surprised me is how difficult it was for him to walk and look at the same time. This seems second nature to us, but apparently it is extremely hard to move and look somewhere simultaneously.

I tried to get my mom to play Halo. She was doing well until she saw her first Elite. She screamed and held the trigger down until there was no more ammo for the gun...

You'd think an army officer would be more courageous...

surely your taste is better than Twi-hards!

Actually, most of the time it seems kinda dickish. I mean, I've known a few friends who were kinda interested, but hadn't really played, and there I try and help them. But most of the time, if it's not their thing, I don't bother.

Though now you've got the Twilight comparison in my head, I'm worried. Can't unthink.

It was funny watching my mom learn to play the Wii, though. I mean, she did it with no outside help and I'm not trying to deride her. A friend of hers got one because she had been convinced of the fitness benefits, so I set hers up. When my mom got one, I set hers up. And that was basically all I did.

...If I was smart, I would have taken video for Youtube.

My mom learned Animal Crossing from whence I actually played it as a kid.
Now its the only action the Wii gets besides my boredom fits with CoD:WaW

If I have a friend who doesn't really game much, if I think I know something they would like, I'll recommend stuff. But most people I know who don't game usually have a reason for it. I don't wanna try to force a hobby on them.

If they're interested, cool, I'll try my best to find something they like. But beyond that I keep my nose out of it.

I have a grandfather who used to race stock cars back in the 60's, so I brought Gran Turismo 4 and a wheel controller over for him to try out.

To my surprise, he played the game pretty well for about 20 minutes. Then he decided to stop, because it was causing him a little dizziness.
Still, that was impressive to see an 83 year old pick up a game so well. Makes me wish I could've seen him race back in his prime, because a PS2 simulation probably didn't do his memories justice.

I've introduced my dad to Mass Effect. He can't play it for more than an hour at a time because he has this OCD need to get up and move around and do shit constantly. He doesn't have much free time in the first place, but he says he likes it.
