Hey there everybody nice to talk with you all again it's been awhile. I have recently re-bought NWN2 from Gamestop and am stuck trying to create a character. You see in the past I always played a male Tiefling all and I enjoyed the comments made towards or of my character's race same thing as the male Drow. However I am stuck on what to play as for the most unique dialogue same thing for the backgrounds (milita, natural leader, bully etc.). So I was hoping to get some help from you all. For those who may wonder I usually play as a Chaotic good Warlock with about 4 levels of bard thrown in.

For those that have played the game, please tell us your experience with it, it would please me greatly.

Sorry captcha I didn't mean to ramble.

I usually stick with humans because I'm boring like that. I do like to play around with multiclassing however, with probably my favourite being the rogue/fighter combo and then toying around with a prestige class at the highest levels to see what happens. Usually Duelist, Shadowdancer, or Weapons Master depending on the module I'm playing and what suits it best. Pure Wizards are always fun as well!

I did actually like the Duelist prestige class, as the idea of wearing simple clothing and kicking as by dodging parrying and some ka-flourishes, but my problem was that later on in the game you get a universal sword that doesn't really work with the rapier focus as I believe it uses the longsword animations. I always tended to full Warlock or full Monk on a playthrough as their was no real good choices I could find for them I mean eventually after you turn lawful you can multiclass into a paladin but by than it is to late to get any enjoyment out of it.

I found myself playing Tiefling most of the time, too. I never did multiclassing because I didn't like the idea of being half as good at two classes, instead of as good as I can be in one. I tried Warlock but never really got on with it. The only character I completed the game on was an Aasimir? (The 'opposite' of Tiefling) Paladin.

I'm not entirly sure that they are truly oppisites, bear in mind I have never played DnD in my life so I may be wrong, but from what I can tell Aasimer and Tieflings are but half human's decended from either a fey or fiendish background, however with Asmodeus now a Greater Diete (from absorbing Helm's essence I believe?) all Tieflings are now decended from him, with Aasimers being from the lighter gods.

It's been a while I played this game, but I remember that there were some really off-the-wall and sometimes pretty damn overpowered character builds on the wikia of the game. I always wanted to try them (especially one with the Red Dragon Disciple prestige class), but I honestly didn't like the game that much.

I understand that it tries to emulate tabletop DnD as closely as it can, but that approach makes the combat unnecessarily complex and kind of silly for me. I had the same problems with the old Black Isle games as well, but at least Baldur's Gate and Torment had a good enough story that I would force myself through them nevertheless, something you cannot say about NW2...

Im trying to get back into NWN2, but the most difficult part is choosing your character path. You pretty much have to set your path in stone from the word go.

Especially since many classes range from useless to OP, with hardly nothing in the middle. For example, I wanted to play a technical fighters. Unfortunately rogues (and their prestige classes) are useless as nearly everything is immune to crits and sneak attacks halfway in the game.

Alright, lets try an archer....oh wait they don't scale for crap past level 8.

It seems like if you are not a stormlord, some monk variation, or weaponmaster you shouldn't even bother. My first playthrough was as a warlock, and I ended up controlling my companions instead as the warlocks ability were useless (except for the demon transformation, ill admit that is fun).

What do you mean that the Warlocks were ,mostly useless, at base level they are stronger than the sorcerer, and later on you get some very good crowd control powers such as, eldritch doom, eldritch chains, tenacious plague and the wall of perilous flames. I admit though that it helps to have a 2 mainline fighters and a spoony bard to back you up in the later levels.

None of the backgrounds give you that much unique dialogue. I suggest picking whatever sounds the most fitting for your character. If none of them are, just pick the bonus that you like most.

I played through the main campaign as a male aasimar cleric/warpriest and I played through the main campaign and Mask of the Betrayer as a female tiefling fighter/blackguard. Both were fun to play.

I think a good choice for a tactical fighter would have to be either the swashbuckler or the ranger as both have abilities that would compliment fighting whilst not being a tank.

Unique Dialog? Orc with Intelligence of 3, or with 18 and play him as a wizard, I cannot think of something that should be more unique of 'Stupid Orc' to 'Did that Orc just correct me?'

Or... play the original Baldur's Gate game in the NWN2 engine.

You know I have all 3 expansions and yet i've never played them, farthest I ever got was about 6 quests after the trial, how are they?

I only got Mask of the Betrayer - which is awesome if you like an RPG that focuses on story rather than action.
I didn't bother with the others because Storm of Zehyr's premise didn't appeal to me, and the 3rd came out too late for me to be interested in it.

The warlock spells themselves do crap for damage since they can be spammed (spell availability is not a big deal in NWN2 as it takes all 5 seconds to get back your spells), and many of the enemies at end are immune to most of a warlocks best spells. Towards the end game, my warlock was either using a crossbow (which did significantly more damage than my spells) or spamming demon transformation and meleeing. Warlock spells are extremely underwhelming. Magic missile alone outshines most of a warlocks arsenal.

I have played the game through about seven times, but for the first time played a monk ladies man human. I actually found the game to be different enough this time for me to fall in love with it again. The dialogue was different, the fighting style and the way I had to approach problems. Only thing I didn't like was that even though I was a monk I couldn't give Khelgar any new advice on being a monk.

Warlocks useless? What?
Sure, they're pretty weak the first few levels, but later on, they're powerhouses bordering on being overpowered. They may not have the burst damage of a sorc or a wizard, but their damage is consistent and reliable. They're amazing at dealing massive amounts of area damage, on top of having excellent support spells and survivability. If you think warlock abilities are useless, you're playing the game seriously wrong.

You do get some slight dialogue differences if you meet him as a shield drawf monk, maybe you get some more dialogue when you meet his clan later but I never played that far as a monk, I play as that character when I need a laugh as it is always a emmense joy to watch him kill people by either punching or spin kicking people in the crotch.

I keep taking screen caps as my character is fighting. They never get old. Though it is kinda disturbing to fight iron golems as monks. I have a screen cup of what looks like my character head-butting the golem in the crotch...
