I can't say I don't want to get it. But I got lots of other games in my pending list to add another remake to the list. Although there is an old NWN mod that I never finished, and this edition supports it. Hmm...

Combine a list of games I already want to play, me already physically having NWN2, and only a certain amount of time per day to play, and I don't see why I should get it really.

I was just thinking about digging out my old NWN game but I dreaded trying to wade my way through all of the mods out there.

What's new about this updated version vs the vanilla original, may I ask?

I don't know about that other stuff, but besides maybe the story, NWN2 just sucks compared to NWN. Death by a thousand cuts is what comes to mind if I had to sum up my experience with NWN2. There's just soooo many little problems with it and it bafflingly seems to have even regressed in a few areas.

Just for starters, the multiplayer servers are completely back up now. There's also full workshop support. The UI size can now be adjusted based on resolution. There's also been a host of bugfixes and other fixes to make it completely compatible with all modern OSes and systems as well as small graphical improvements to the engine. It's also backwards compatible with all old content. And there's also more to come. Devs were talking about making less of the engine hard-coded for example so modders can change and add even more, but we'll see about that.

And finally, it's only $20. I mean, really. I would have paid that anyway just to have the vanilla Diamond Edition on my Steam account.

Basically, there's some upscaled resolution and graphical tweaks.
There's some mod support tied to steam-drm.
Improved Display: Your portrait, combat bar, inventory, and other UI elements adjust in size based on your chosen resolution including 1080p and 4k.

Advanced Graphics Options: Pixel shaders and post-processing effects make for crisper, cleaner visuals. Enable contrast, vibrance, and depth of field options as preferred.

Community Endorsed: Original developers have teamed with key members of the Neverwinter Nights community to curate important fan-requested improvements to support players, storytellers, and modders.

Backwards Compatibility: Works with save games, modules, and mods from the original Neverwinter Nights. A galaxy of community created content awaits.
Haven't seen any of the online PWs convert to NWN:EE yet, although I won't deny that I might just have missed them.
I'd say, for the 20$ they ask, it's only really worth it if you don't already have a copy of the game.

I've seen a couple of shuttered ones planning a relaunch with it.

As to existing and still running PWs, it seems like there'd be a versioning issue there. A server running NWN 1.69 won't recognize NWN-EE 1.0 as the correct client version. If the server went to NWN-EE itself, maybe they've made it recognize NWN 1.69 as legitimate clients, but any new features (like that code unlocking thats been mentioned) wouldn't function properly because of conflicting inputs from the old client.

And forcing a 50-100+ playerbase to upgrade a game they already own on the off chance of picking up a (probably minimal, 15 year old game and all that) seems like a chancey branch to go out on that could wipe out your community. Thats before taking in potential conflicts with haks and override content.

You and I argued about something the other day.

Can't remember what it was.

And now you want me to buy the Enhanced Edition of Neverwinter Nights?

Ehh, ok sold. I'll do it when I get home. I never got around to buying the NWN remake back when it came out even though I was a huge fan of Icewind Dale and ID 2. And I'm old enough... I was a player in the original NWN. On AOL. In the 90's. It will be interesting to get back in.

NWN was slowly breaking down a little bit each year as incompatibilities arose so I very much agree with this enhanced edition being made, even if it might only be a glorified compatibility patch.

I don't recall fighting with you. You're probably thinking of someone else.

Multiplayer servers will probably be transitioning to NWN:EE plus there's new content being made that won't be compatible with the old content. And c'mon. It's just $20. I don't know why everyone thinks it's such a high price.

I did get you mixed up, my apologies. I looked it up. I actually agreed with you in a thread, then goaded you into posting a top 10 list that you said you didn't want to post.

Sorry about that. I get bored at work sometimes
