Nah, me and my freind who I consider a reasonably intelligent man who obsessive researches market trends and other things agree- Sony isn't looking good the way it's going. This happened when they pushed Betamax, this happened when Nintedo tried to 'outpower' the PS1 (N64 had double the power of the 32 bit PS1, but poor design choices such as teh CARTRIDGES!). The market goes in cycles, Sony is hammering against the market with brute force and technoligy and is sending itself the way of the N64.

I'm not saying the ps3 is dhoom for Sony, far from it. If they countinue this way for another 2 or 3 console generations (which might be a decade or more) however, it will be.

Hmm Nexgenwars hasn't changed itself, That information is false. The ps3 has around 14million consoles sold while the 360 has around 20 million. The ps3 is gaining on the 360 mighty fast for something with no back catalog.

For a machine that basicly started selling last year I would say thats pretty good number. The 360 had a whole year extra time to play with itself.

Most "failures" fail pretty damn quickly. Virtual Boy and Pippin for ex.

Because that's when the console is most vulnerable, launch time/beginning of it's life.

Believe it or not, both MS and Sony are selling at a loss because of the billions they bleed to make the thing sell more - Sony is of course in a deeper hole but both sides are greatly exaggerated. Ninty is the only one making profit and they aren't doing shit.

Two years. Xbox 360 has been on the market for 3, and lacked the PS2's strong pedigre- the Xbox underperformed the older PS2 by a great deal. The PS3 sales HAVE nearly doubled this year, so we'll have to see how they do this holiday season- they could surpass the 360 as EA predicted.

However, things are different for Nintendo whose got 6.67 million in sales and is making a muuch larger profit margin on each system while both 360 and ps3 have been sold at lossess. It's hard to see how they'll do- Nintendo is kicking it's stride finally but they have no good games and too much gimmick atm.

In any case we're talking about a period of 4-6 years. Right now the the 360 is in the lead, Sony could surpass, and I think Nintendo is waiting patiently while the other two fight. What pushed the PS2 over the Gamecube (which was also produced for cheaper at a higher proft) and the Xbox was a few blockbuster titles in 2001. However, system uniques are becoming a thing of the past so we'll see.

I would like to point out that many people havn't upgraded to the ps3 yet from the ps2 could be that they are still releasing scaled back ps2 games. They won't let the 100 million selling horse die.

I'll give you that, my old PS2 mule is sitting right beside me. But i'm going to get a 360 this season because it has moar games i'd like to play, and it's cheaper. Sooo..thats as far as I look into it for my personal choice.

I still think the PS3 is too shiny for it's shit and just a biiitt pretensious with it's Blu-ray self. Admittedly it's not full of Shovelware or Red Rings of Fail though.

The arguement over who is losing more money must be put into perspective.

While it is true that 360 has sold %27 more units, it is also true that Sony makes money off the 360s movie space. Couple that money with the movies Sony selld on their own server and Sony is ahead in content profits by a looooong way. Remember, Sony MAKES movies.... Microsoft SELLS movies. Microsoft takes a small cut of the profits, but Sony gets alot more each time someone downloads one of their movies from Live.

Then we get to console profits. Yes Microsoft has sold %27 more consoles (at a lose) but they have lawsuits that they are guaranteed to lose over their criminal negligence (I know it's misspelled). Ofcourse the money they will lose on these lawsuits and refurbishing 360s will never be released to the public.

Next is the most pressing issue IMO... "the P word". Right now millions are downloading Fallout3 and Farcry2 for free on the 360... yes 360 will sell more consoles (at a lose) because of this, but developers aren't so stupid as to not weight their options and at least start making the "piracy immune platform" have better content in order to sell their game.

To think Microsoft is doing better financially in their 360 division is just a lack of knowledge. I personally like what the 360 has done for gaming. But what it is doing to developers and consumers that don't "steal" content is a crime.... not like a crime... a CRIME.

Hadda bump this since Fallout3, Farcry2, Fable2, and Gears of War2 are all on the pirated games list even before release (the big games).

Before people had to make the choice... buy it on release or wait for the pirated version later at an unknown date.

Now the choice is get it early for free, or wait and pay for it.... tough call.... for a saint.

Dare I suggest that the Final Fantasy series has single-handedly decided the outcome of the previous two console wars? FF7 and FF10 seemed to emerge at really convenient times for Sony. With the FF13 exclusivity a thing of the past I can see this particular war going on for a very long time...

(Perhaps a Kojima-led MGS5 could be the key? Unlikely I know.)
