well, let's just hope that Sega ain't going to be bashing the fans up any lnger with useless innovations that fall flat and drop those innovations that had a solid grounding.

And while I admitedly did play Sonic Adventures 1 & 2 I was luckily spared by the other crap games but even the Adventures did offer a bit too little of the good bits. The levels were rather short for my liking (personal opinion) and that led to rather short moments of good ideas which really could have been stacked up a few more times in longer levels.

But it does look like they are getting their act together, gameplay-wise. The rest of those little bad things (voice acting, bad story, supporting cast) can appear at any time.

EDIT:

Deja Vu...

That's what they said about Sonic Unleashed and we all know how that turned out...

Doesn't matter cuz i'm gonna play the new game anyways...
Exactly. The franchise has really been on thin ice since that game. Go farther back if you like, but I see it as a game that made a larger amount of fans and gamers turn on the franchise. Mainly because the "return to the roots" gameplay that was hyped in the first months was a lie for most of the game.
And yes, I feel with you, mates. I sure hope that if it's full 2D (in Gameplay) that it will indeed give a good bit of Nostalgia love and not lashing into it, as well. I would really like to see another game like that. Simple, fast, challenging and formost FUN platforming action. What more would you need to define the PURE Sonic?

Last Sonic game I enjoyed was by Bioware, and that was an RPG...

Played "Sonic 2 and Knuckles" not that long ago, if it is anything like that I'm insanely happy. (oh and on PC....)

It's still going to suck.

Going back to 2D won't magically improve their terrible level design. Granted it's much harder to screw up a 2D level than a full 3D one, but knowing Sonic team they will always find ways to screw it up.

It's not going to be nearly as good as the old games. Don't get your hopes up.
Sonic Rush was exellent. This will also be exellent. Do us a favor and get your head out of your ass, will you?

EDIT: I Don't mean to be rude, but I always get a bit upset when people talk about Sonic and, for some stupid-ass reason, overlook the recent handheld titles. The series hasn't been ALL bad these days, people.

Now they need to fix the level design. Really, go and play the old games, especially the first two, and count the number of times you can fall into an inescapable deathtrap in the entire game. Chances are it'll only be on one or two zones.

Now do the same with the first level of a recent Sonic game. You'll probably get a higher number.

Sonic games have gotten, alongside their universally shitty 3D camera and controls that seem to get worse and worse with every passing installment, to be bound up in levels designed for maximum frustration to the gamer, and with cheap death pits everywhere making a mockery of one of the core concepts of the original Sonic, that you were protected by having rings, and as long as you could reclaim them when you got hit you could carry on.

Can't be worse than some of the recent offerings. I'll give it a try. Back to the old school or adventure days would be a good thing.
Personally, I'd really like to see some of the gameoverthinker ideas coming into play.

Does no one else think the shadow in the emblem doesn't seem to resemble Sonic at all?
I noticed that too. I'm slightly concerned that it'll turn into a teenaged sonic wearing baggy clothes with slicked back hair or something.

EDIT: Spouting crappy gansta lingo and one-liners.

Finally, if this doesn't work, nothing will. I'm surprised it too so long, not cause of fan out cry, but cause Nintendo were taking Mario back to 2-D quite often to good success and getting good results, and Sega is always happy to follow suit.

Sorry Sonic, but you've lied to us too many times and forced too much furry porn on us with your never-ending barrage of shitty forest friends for me to be fooled again.

I do hope this game will end up good. The old "retro" Sonic games were awesome. But then again it might just suck and I might just end up spending my money like an idiot only to throw the game into the bin the next minute.

Developers, listen: nobody cares about anybody in the series but Sonic. Not even Tails. So get rid of those damn douchebag characters like Knuckles and Amy and keep it like the original: one speedy blue hedgehog versus one mad scientist.

... Okay, I guess Tails would be cool for coop play or something, but if we have to sit through some plot about Emeralds and listen to exposition from Knuckles and observe the sexual tension between Sonic and that girlfriend thing of his, then screw you guys.
What a blasphemous crock of...

Knuckles' popularity is actually ridiculously close to Sonic. He's so much more interesting than Tails and Amy, and Sonic and Knuckles shows that the best Sonic games have Knuckles in them. Plus, he can glide and is super strong! I mean, come now! Pfft, douchebag characters...and yes, you did hit a nerve!

I guess Sony had to show them that a 2-D game can exsist in todays world. This should be good so long as there is no 3-D

I've passed TeamSonic's offices in London. I didn't think there was any life inside, turns out I was wrong...

...seriously, who still buys sonic games anyway?
I do, because I enjoy them.
I appologise for any offence caused. I was in a bad mood last night and this seemed like the perfect target

You started off at the top, had a brief success with 3D through the much loved Sonic Adventure series
Much loved? I don't remember that. Anakin bloody Skywalker as Tails? Ch'yeah right. Running around helping humans? Pffft.

Sonic has been dead since Flicky's Island if you ask me. The franchise was perfect up til then, until they decided Sonic had to be 'updated' as the console wars escalated into the 3D World. [anyone else feel since 3D graphics that gaming has kinda... lost some of its magic?]

Mario pulled it off, but then again he was a darn slight slower than Sonic. Plus Nintendo just seemed to get it right, whereas Sonic Team failed miserably.

On topic with the news of a new 2D game? Too little, too late. Sonic -was- my childhood hero. He made me aware of Japan and video gaming, and most likely had a small part in my growing up. Nowadays I see Mario as more a childhood hero, and I didn't even have a bloody SNES :(

Oh, and can someone confirm that Tails is now a 'girl'? My ex whom works at Gamestation told me, and I couldn't believe it.

Your not forgiven AHAHAHA!
I wasn't offended. Even though I like the new ones. It's impossible even for me to enjoy Sonic The Hedgehog 2006. And it's better to release any anger you had last night than to keep it in.

i find it amusing how they keep trying to make it different, when what people really want is 500 levels of same old.
but if they do that they'll have enough room on the dvd to make A HUNDRED HOURS OF CUTSCENES
