Justin Timberlake and Robert Pattison? Why? I'm afraid I don't know the other people though.

Meh.

Timberlake isn't that bad. I really enjoyed him in The Social Network, actually. Robert Pattison would be lame though, but the rest of the list is pretty good really. James McAvoy and Joaquin Phoenix would be great.

I'm quite sure this thread is just going to be people having a whinge about nothing worth whinging about just because they've seen Pattison's name and Akira in the same sentence.

EDIT: ALSO, notice the slight lean towards kind of 'nerdy' (or whatever you want to call it) preferences? Actors from Star Trek, Spiderman reboot, Tron...

I'm not sure which is worse, that those guys are being considered for an Americanised Akira live-action movie, or that Hollywood is dumb enough to try to make one in the first place.

Either way, I'll be giving that one a miss...

Son of a *****. What in the hell are they thinking? If Kubrick or something were doing this I would be excited, but putting that putz Robert Pattison even in the running really makes me think it will be terrible. You can't get past the fact that being in Twilight will follow everything he does for some time, and he just isn't right for any role in this movie.

Joaquin Phoenix I think could have done well in it, Timberlake isn't the worst actor but I think he'd be distracting in it. But neither look young enough to really fit the roles.

Some of the other options seem okay, none really jump out at me as amazing. But Americanizing the story is worrying, as that generally means Hollywood wants to also dumb it down and make it more commercial.

I just really fucking hope Robert Pattinson isn't in it.

All the other choices are nice but that... no.

"The story takes place in the rebuilt New Manhattan"

Wait...what? It was Neo-Tokyo after the World War III wasn't it? That's a rather odd artistic liberty to take considering the characters names still sound Japanese...

Also I pity whoever gets Tetsuo's role in the end, they're gonna spend the last third of the movie as a big CG blob of organs and puss.

Ah well, Hollywood had to rape Akira eventually.
