For those who have bought the newest games like MW 2 and AC 2 on the 360 should have noticed that now they are manufacturing the cases like this:

My friend showed this to me first when he got Asssassin's Creed 2, then yesterday I got MW 2 and the case was like that.

What does everyone think of this? Isn't this stupid!? What the fuck were they thinking!? The cases were perfectly fine when they were solid, but now these cases are real flimsy and feel kind of fragile when you hold them, like if you are going to crush it inward. I'm not trying to make a big deal out of it because it isn't, but it is still damn annoying and I can't possibly understand why they did this.

Its not just limited to games; I've bought a few DVDs with this kind of case too.

I don't know why they are changing them but something tells me its supposed to be an "environmentally friendly" thing.

I don't care about the case as much as the little knob thing the games sit on.

On the newer ones, I'm scared I'm going to snap the disc in two because it's wedged on so tight.

At first I was going to tell you to chill out, but now that I think about it...that is retarded. My only reasoning is that Microsoft doesn't want to buy more plastic.

they are prob manufacturing them with less plastic to save some sliver of money. If your worried about the disks safety an easy thing to o would be slip the sleeve of mw2 for example onto an old case of a game you don't care too much about and just leave the disk there

Didn't anyone read the Escapist Article?

They are Eco cases, and use like 20% less plastic.

Geeze it's like no body reads this stuff >_>

I bought AC2 last week, old regualar case for me, I don't think they would change the game case so it was less protective then it is now. Since I don't have such a case I wouldn't knnow if the discs are any less safe then before.

Theres really no way to say it without sounding like a fanboy, but the PS3 cases are probably using about 20% less plastic too, and they look unique and expensive as opposed to flimsy and cheap.

I'm gonna say calm down. It's just an attempt to reduce plastic. I mean, it's not like your carrying the cases with you into situations where someone might come at you with a hammer. They're only gonna sit on a shelf for ever more.

As long as the hold the CD and can form a Stack, then I'm happy. Personaly, I think it's a good idea. It's certainly not worth getting that worked up about.

Maybe you should consider the fact that the damn article never came up on "Latest Content". Not everyone checks the News Room section often, so don't give an attitude just because we missed it.

Must be eco friendly and money saving.
Maybe a ploy to breaking the game to make you buy new ones!

You know what? Every time I see a small move like this that could be interpreted as environmentally friendly it seems so pointless to me.

Do you know why?

[rant]Where else than America can people justify wearing jumpsuits made of advertisements in order to go 160 miles per hour around a track about 200 times and waste gallons upon gallons of gas.

And still have the audacity to call it a sport [/rant]

Kinda ridin' the line there. Everything has likely appeared on the "latest content" at one point or another. Due to the fluctuation in it's nature its possible that you never saw it (or didn't notice it.) Perhaps we should all go grave dig so you could have the honor?

At any rate, I don't see what the big deal is. I keep my games and movies nicely organized and have never once broke any casing. When I play, I set the current case next to the system that way it does suffer carelessness or poor temper.

I heard they did this because of some Wal Mart environmental challenge thing for them to reduce the packaging by some percentage of weight.

While I know this might be hard to understand for a professional game daredevil like yourself, most gamers who are buying Xbox games aren't going to find themselves being attacked by a horde of quarterbacks every day. There's no need to design game cases that rival an Abrams in armor plating when all they're doing is, as a poster above me said, sitting on your shelf.

And it's also "eco-friendly".

Aye, but IT WAS on latest content, if you atleast look once every 2 days, you'd have seen it.

And as I'm sure that everyone who posted here in this thread (with maybe one or 2 exceptions) visit the escapist atleast once every 2 days.

Hell, type "Eco" in the search box and it's the FIRST result.
