This is probably a blessing in disguise.

Did you guys really want to play this? If it's anything like the movies you're better off without it.

Alright, if all the stuff they describe is true, then

1) That is the raddist shit I've ever heard.

and 2) I think that they have a reasonable basis for refusing it classification. I don't really agree with it, but when spinal columns get ripped out then the issues the game gets in government don't just stem from soccer moms that haven't gotten a screw in over a decade.
The problem isn't so much that they are being overly prudish or anything. I personally wouldn't buy this game. The issue is that we are having our choices limited by some official board, based on morals I may or may not share. Censorship is a dangerous thing, and not too far removed from outright banning of freedom of speech (not that we have had true freedom of speech in Australia for years, but the point remains).

If they want to limit it to R, fine (yes, philosophically it is still suspect, but compromise is sometimes useful). But banning it outright is insulting and in clear violation of what many of us consider basic human rights.

This is so lame, I wish games wouldn't get banned in this country for daring to feature what it clearly possible. Honestly people overreact, the sheer fact that I can't get the same experiance in Left 4 Dead 2 because its 'too violent' is a testamony to that. Why do they have to ruin so many good things for the Australian gamer?
I mean banning things because it's violent is Un-Australian, we live off of violence. One look at our history (or hell an average rugby game) can tell us that.

This is getting ridiculous. Is it me, or have they all of a sudden started banning really well known games because then they can get the precious attention they desire?

*sigh* I can't stay mad at them. They're between a rock and a hard place. The main problem is of course Atkinson. I want to see him removed, I just hope that the person who replaces him not only changes the rating system, but is also a good leader. Wouldn't want the person who made the biggest step forward for gaming in Australia to be a terrible leader.

It'll be M-Rated for sure (this is what you meant by R-rating)
No,no, im saying is it getting an R rating in the United States,if it is then it's ok for it to be classified R in Australia. But if it isn't getting an R rating in the states then it shows that the people in the ESRB for Australia obviously rate games too high.

Maybe the totalitarian board in question here is afraid that all the +18 people who would be allowed to buy and play the game in any other country (except maybe N-Korea), will start to suffer from their own heritage with all the convict thing and all. That they would go kill-crazy from seeing blood on their screens. Maybe they are right. Maybe the australian people aren't ready to see this sort of thing... and there is an omnipotent god who loves all of us oh so very muc... and the moon is made of cheese!

Totally agree with that one. Bloody Atkinson. Wish I lived in SA so I could kick him off the damn House of Assembly.

On the other hand, although things like Prototype are pretty traumatic (seeing diced peoples isn't really the best thing for people, even if they are allowed to play the game), there really is no reason to ban violent games. The solution is make especially violent games illegal(unbuyable) for anyone under the age of X (18 in this case). After that it's a matter of gauging whether you can handle the violence or not. One of my friends gets queasy at Borderlands-level violence, so he probably won't go out and spam AVP, while on the other hand I know a guy who could play Prototype and Manhunt all day and not have a restless dream.
Each to his own, so long it's legal.

Alright, you may or may not have seen my comments in another thread, but this line basically sums it up:

"WHERE DOES IT END?!?!?!"

Seriously, it's not like Australian shop keepers are like English shopkeepers, who can be bribed by little green wads of paper danging in front of their face like shiny things in front of a cat.

(As distasteful as it may be to make comparisons: I'm going to do it anyway)

Wasn't there a certain 1930's - mid 1940's government that used to decide what the people could and couldn't enjoy for the sake of "the well-being of society". When the government tells you what you can and can't watch, there is a name for that. Yeah, exactly.

Michael Atkinson is the worlds biggest douchebag. Seriously he out douchbags an actual douchbag. I don't see why we have restrictions for. Just today The Saboteur released a nude patch for the game (Yey Bewbiez!). I don't see why they are trying to shield us from losing our innocence. Oh and Michael? You KILLED L4D2!

I'm glad. The more games that are refused classification, the more ammo the R+18 cause has to bring to the fight.

Wow, that really sucks for Australia, but hearing the level of gore and brutal trophy kills has made my day. I was looking forward to it before hand, but now its even more so.

"The game contains first-person perspective, close-up depictions of human characters being subjected to various types of violence, including explicit decapitation and dismemberment as well as locational damage such as stabbing through the chest, mouth, throat, or eyes," the board report stated.

"Characters can be stabbed with a Predator's wrist blade or an Alien's tail in depictions reminiscent of impalement. The Predator collects 'trophies' by explicitly ripping off human heads, their spinal columns dangling from severed necks. Heads can be twisted completely around in order to break a character's neck. Eyes can be stabbed through or gouged, leaving empty, bloodied eye sockets.

"It is noted that a player is able to combine manoeuvres together in quick succession, which further increases impact; for example, a Predator can stab a character through both eyes with its wrist blade and rip off their head, with spinal column still attached. Extensive post-mortem damage, including decapitation and dismemberment, is also possible." '
god damn.......... for a board that hates games...... they sure know how to make me want to play one...........
I agree totally. and I am so glad that I live in America.
