Bioshock has had an Underwater setting and a Sky-island setting.

Do you guys think there are other settings they could possibly explore that would work well with the game?
Do you guys think there will be a (spiritual) successor?
What bothered you about the old settings?

Well, the only two options I can think of all...

1. Subterranean, as other's have suggested
2. SPAAAAAAACE!!!!

And yes, I know System Shock is a thing. But it's been awhile.

Maybe this is a little too close to the underground thing, but how about inside an active volcano?

Well, if you're going to do an underground Shock game, you have to have a volcano/magma level. It would be absurd to suggest otherwise.

I guess space is the only one left that could work well. Underground would just feel like every underground/ruins level ever and they're hardly known for their gorgeous scenery. Space on the other hand would feel Mass-Effect/Dead-Space-like but at least you'd get the chance to just look out the window from time to time and star-gaze - "beautiful yet isolating" just like under the sea or in the sky were. Underground would just seem utterly dull in comparison.

That... would actually work tremendously well, particularly the survivalism thing. Could do some interesting stuff about paranoia and isolationism driving the people to aggression. Throw in a charismatic demagogue, boom, Bioshock game.

How about one where you are a space station of some sort. And you are guided along by someone on a radio, who turns out to be an evil computer. That could be sweet

Underground and Space sound like cool settings, though I'd think I prefer underground a little bit more.

Most likely, it was a fairly popular series.

Nothing really, I thought Infinite's combat was shite, but everything else was fine.

Yes, put it into space, and make it cyberpunk. There should be cybernetic modules and stuff.
I don't know how you could fit hacking into space though. With all the water pipes and the wrenches, it'll look a tad out of place.
Lol so System Shock?

I remember Ken Levine always saying they didn't want to do a space setting, as it's a trope that's been done so many times, that's why he went down (underwater) not up, for Bioshock.

I think the historical settings are part of the charm, setting it in the future might be something of a mistake, it'd have to be retro-futuristic at least.

Being underground will really set a tone though, very claustrophobic, unless we're talking massive caverns with giant gardens and underground ecosystems and things. That'd be pretty cool.

The original bioshock setting would be cool to see, or atleast one of the original ones. I mean the Nazi bunker by the way, that was basically system shock but without the AI and more Nazi-Bug things tearing apart archaeologists.

First off, I hope they don't make another one. Ken Levine has moved on and if I recall correctly the studio has broken up. I'd rather not see the Bioshock equivalent of Halo 4.

Buuuut, if they do... maybe a pontoon city? Like a floating shanty town kind of deal?

Seconding underground. Make it nice and claustrophobic in the habitats and lots of caverns with creepy flora and fauna. Theme-wise maybe we could switch to an English city that's steeped in the 60's MI6-fueled anti-communist paranoia.

And of course it needs plenty of lava.

Don't forget the space setting!
Seeing as we're getting a System Shock 3 I suppose we're good on that.

Oh. Oh right. I forgot about that. Aww. Yeah, better not then. Let's stick with System Shock.

Yeah, they did space. It's called System Shock.

Actually, the whole city-in-the-sky-thing in Infinite already felt very far-fetched to me. Like they were already running out of believable ideas.

I'd love a new Shock-game, but Levine and friends shouldn't get too adventurous in the setting. If the gameplay, atmosphere and story are as good as System Shock 2 and the first two Bioshocks, I'll be a happy camper.

Underground
In an active vulcano
In the Arctic
On the Moon
On the Sun
On another planet
In Heaven
In Hell

Or on a super-secret underwater frozen volcano city inside a black hole in an alternate dimension version of the Andromeda galaxy.
