While Vietnam would be epic and batshit crazy (in a good way), it'd end up having one of these two things bogging it down;
1.) It could draw controversy considering Vietnam was the Bloodiest War in Modern Day..if you've read some of the things that happened to captured prisoners or even on the field of battle you'd under stand. Most likely it'd also get controversy since nearly all of America's Soldiers came back as nervous wrecks.
2.) It'd probably loose some money in the west because a lot of American Consumers would rather play a war game where you know..we win.
-------------------------
I think there should be a Call of Duty for the U.S. Civil War, or perhaps the Napoleonic wars. That would be some fun stuff to play.

i like modern warfare and wouldn't mind if it stayed the same but going a bit into the future wouldnt be too bad either, maybe adding some non-existent guns wouldnt be too bad if it went into the future

Weren't there nameless people in CoD4 who could die?

Anyways, I'd like to see a CoD during the Napoleonic Wars.
I have seen plenty of random privates get killed on cod4, for example when you start the marine campaign, they get shot to ribbons, The OP obviously hasn't played cod4 if he has never seen nameless characters die.
Oh please, of course I've played CoD4, what gamer HASN'T? I was merely stating that there aren't as many nameless characters who die in that that in other CoD titles.

Why not have a WW2 game where we play as the Nazis for a change? I've probably killed more Nazis in games than any other type of character (Zombies, goombas, hopefully you get what I mean). Why can't we get a game where we kill Americans as the enemy for a change?
YES, thankyou, I was wondering when someone else would share my point of view. Not only is this a fantastic break from the norm without disengaging from a popular formula, but it opens the door for better plots and emotional depth within computer games as a medium. I mean, come on, what player wants to fight a battle that, EVEN AT THE TIME, everyone knew the german's would lose, especially as a conscript in the Whermacht? Just think what creative doors this opens!!!

I was thinking Vietnam but that may seem almost the same as CoD5 + I was reading a book about it and some of the stuff they did in the war. It would be to graphical to put in any game.
Generally you don't make games where you lose at the end.
Unless you play as the Vietnamese! Let's see the Fox News story that sparks.

Contrary to popular belief 17th-18th century battles weren't people just lining up and hoping that the other guys miss. If that were the case I think you Americans out there would be English now. I do however agree that the era fits better in the RTS genre. But it would be cool to see some creative minds spin this idea around. Muskets are fucking awesome.

The Cold War. Think about it. No side ever engaged the other. "Allegdly." They could easily make there own story about what went down.

Call of Duty: Civil War. Hear me out: Five chapters, ten missions each. Chapters are: American civil war, Spanish civil war, Russian civil war, English civil war, concluding with the Chinese Civil War. Each chapter features a different set of weapons/vehicles from the era chosen, with unique dialogue and missions relevant to the time period.

Upon completing all chapters, a bonus mission: Assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, sparking the First World War.

Anything else, or has every war been listed now? (this should have been a poll)

Poll: Call of Duty: Vietnam? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.121624]

Lies they teach you in HIstory class [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.125463]

Inventive Evil weapons [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.124067]

Agent Orange (the chemical) [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.129704.2819878]

All four touch on Vietnam, one way or another.

...

...

Edit: suggestion for future conflict: X-Com: Enemy unknown and X-Com2: Terror From The Deep's world. There could be campaigns all over the planet, fighting alongside regular forces and militias of all nations and blowing the stuffing out of greys, paleblues, lobsters, sea-horses, armour-plated zombie-factories, floaty brains, fat-arsed uglies and so on, capturing their space ships, blowing their installations sky high and so on.

You'd be able to get most of this catalogue [http://world.guns.ru/main-e.htm] into it somewhere, have deserts, jungles, cool temperate islands, tropical islands, fjords, desert mountains, ice-clad mountains, tundra, savannah, swamp and various styles of village, farm, port and ship, fight as or alongside every special forces unit about whom the game's makers could get enough info and even have the Vietnamese ambushing the aliens in the jungles with their traps made of scrap from downed ships.

I'd want to be able to get my hands on all the original game weapons, even if the starter weapons for 2 *sucked* ... and also to be able to fly one of the interceptors and squirt plasma into the enemies.

MGS3 did that in some way..

I liked the Modern Warfare game and so did everyone here (you know you did, else you wouldn't boter to post) so why not develope on that and make it an actual sequel?

And really, take a break from the Americans, cant we do a futuristic game where Iran and Iraq is fighting to free Holland from a Budistic Dictator ? Just for the giggles.

But tbh, the setting wont really matter much, cus its CoD, and it gonna be nice and shiny.. And for the WW1 thing, personally I hate whenever CoD makes you do a trenchwar part, so please dont..

you guys are sticking with firearms for a COD game.... why not take the route of the elder scrolls and make an FPS-type melee combat style? plenty of wars happened before the advent of gunpowder...

I think they should go in the direction of Ghost Reacon , with ultra modern technologys and prototype guns like the SCAR, xm8 and Cheytac sniper . Think future weapons minus the bald ninja fool. Contextulising the use of the weapons is irrelevant, just select any two random countrys, add oil/nukes/thinly veiled jingoism, and spice it up with mercs to justify the flashy guns. Instant shooty fun.
