If it's gotta be something from another game, though, I'm gonna go with Cecil from Final Fantasy IV. He could use a Zelda/Shiek, Samus/Z-Suit Samus style switching system to "Class Change" between a Dark Knight and a Paladin. The Dark Knight would have very powerful attacks, but would damage himself when using "B" specials. The Paladin would be less powerful, physically, but his specials could potentially be much more damaging, and safer to use besides.
FFIV was remade for the DS not too long ago, so I'm holding out hope that this could actually happen.

Whoever thst one Assist Trophy guy is with the gun/sword thing, he'd be awesome to play as (B for rapid fire gun, ->B for sword...)

The game has too many characters already. Instead of adding more, maybe just refine the ones they have.

Megaman and Bass(Classic Megaman Style with various powers), Zero with his powers from X5, Simon Belmont and Alucard, Majora&Skullkid, Kid Chameleon, Knuckles, Shadow(FF6), Kain(FF4), BlackMage(FF1), Bonk, BomberMan, Sparkster, and The Blob(De Blob).
