I will continue to be skeptical until I am shown that it is either good or bad. If it's good, I'll be pleasantly surprised. If it sucks, I won't bat an eye. My love for Star Wars really only extends to the movies, which saying it extends to all six is saying a lot more than most people.

You know what would be cool? A TV Series based on the X-Wing Series, as in the books. Seriously how much money does it take to duplicate classic Space Dog fights? It could work.

You know what else would be cool? Battlefront III and KOTOR III. So I guess I'll just keep my nerd fantasies to myself.

OOoo. Aren't they hip. They compared Star Wars to the occupy movement.
I guess people aren't buying as much SW stuff in a down economy, so their fan base MUST be occupiers. Way to pigeon-hole people.

And in what world are Rick McCallum and George Lucas not part of the 1%? Heck, they're probably up in the 1/2%.
If these guys were any more mercenary, they'd wear camo and over the shoulder bullet belts.

How about we occupy SkyWalker Ranch until GL releases the original Original Trilogy on BluRay and gives away a copy to everybody that has bought those endless 'enhanced' iterations all these years.
Redistribute THAT buzz word Rick.

Question: If the show isn't happening yet because of the massive amount of cash because "That is because there is so much digital animation, because we have so many digital characters" then WTF is the damn point of having it live action to begin with?

I mean really Doctor Who for the sake of example has tons of types of aliens/robots and a pretty damn large amount of them are just good makeup effects what race are they so set on CGI-ing the crap out of since I would think that it won't be all about Rancors(sp?) or giant beasts of any kind.

I am not particularly crazy about the place in continuity either. I fail to see much of anything interesting happening between the new and old films compared to expanded universe stuff from pre-movies and post-movies (which i no very little to fuckall about).

Yeah i didn't think it was gonna be good before or now. Ill be waiting for Bioware's cinematic department to make an Old Republic movie or something before getting excited.

So they're setting it in an era where there are no Jedi? I suppose it could be about the emergence of the Rebel Alliance in the face of Empire occupation ... but this "gangs" thing sounds weird. Wonder who the protagonists are. At the moment I'm just getting visions of the terrible acting and glaring use of CGI in the prequels.

I think he should leave that whole 6 movies era alone now. I'd say go back to the Old Republic - plenty of Jedi and all sorts running around - but I don't want Lucas to ruin what Bioware have lovingly created from it.

... you know what? Write it about Obi Wan Kenobi's struggle after Order 66 and get Ewan McGregor to play him again. I would watch the shit out of that.

This.

Who the hell thought that going for a social/political/economic commentary focused Star Wars is a good idea?

Seriously.

Take some colorful characters, throw them into a epic fantasy adventure and you have a show.
A bunch of geezers in the Imperial Senate arguing over agricultural reform does not Star Wars make...

Too many digital characters? How about you get some people to put on a rubber suit like in the original movie damnit! For fuck's sake, how is it these people can take a shit without a blue screen in the bathroom I'll never know. And they're letting George write it? I think after the prequel trilogy it's safe to say he just doesn't 'get' Star Wars. At all. Somebody boot his ass and get Timothy Zahn to write the scripts.
This. Digital characters aren't that great anyway and I can sympathise with the notion that George doesn't get star wars. If I'm honest I suspect George likes (and always has liked) the technical innovation required to make Sci-Fi movies and the Star Wars mythology comes a distant second to his primary obsession.

Indeed.

Why not use some practical effects if CG is too expensive?

Either way I just hope it turns out good. I need some good Star Wars.

Sounds like it could be pretty cool. I like the "underworld" aspect they're talking about - stories with bounty hunters and smugglers and the Hutt cartels could be great.
I agree. Hurry up with this Lucas!!!!!!

I FUCKING TOLD YOU PEOPLE NOT TO LET GEORGE NEAR A PEN!

But you didn't fucking listen! You didn't listen...

Needless to say, this sounds unbelievably terrible.
He didn't write these 50+ scripts. He found other people to write them, in fact.

I'm open to the idea, so I will be waiting, and hopefully it'll be good. And hopefully it'll be on Cable so I can watch it. It's not like I can control what cable provider my college provides.

Oh, and I wonder which Star Trek series people will start comparing this to. Trust me, once it airs, it'll happen.
No, he wrote those 50+ scripts. After he found them in other people's desks. And changed the names to sound starwarsy.

The only positive thing I can think of for this show is that it is set in a relatively unresearched part of the Canon. There aren't many EU works that take place in The Dark Times, apart from a few comics and The Force Unleashed games, which are all set near the tail end of the era anyways.

That is exactly the second thing that occurred to me (right after "Christ, this guy is a douchebag"). News flash: the original Cantina scene still holds up and that was shot with only practical effects with the very minor exception of Obi-Wan's lightsaber. Reducing the Jar-Jar by 100% could only serve to improve the canon.

And referring to the US government as being run by criminals and gangs? Fuck you, Rick. Yeah, it's not perfect, but try living in Russia, Somalia or Sudan for a couple of months to see how a government actually run by criminals operates.

Ive been waiting for BF3 forever. It was a great franchise and held so much promise. I don't know what happened but safe to say one way or another we can blame George for it.

You underestimate the power of Lucas.

With the prequels he destroyed the Jedi, made a mockery of Boba Fett, and took all the menace out of Vader.

With this, he has turned his dark eye towards the one character not touched by them... one who's story lives in the underworld, one who is famous for being on the shady side of the law.

He's coming after Han Solo.

Then your fall to the Dark Side will be complete...

Seriously though, they're holding back because the technology isn't good enough, and they have so many digital characters. This shows Lucas has learnt nothing from the Prequels.

Could not agree more. It'd be Space Above and Beyond all over again.

Anybody else hoping for Sam Witwer to reprise his role as Starkiller from The Force Unleashed for a few episodes?
Starkiller and Jar Jar, to me, represent the two worst aspects of recent Star Wars and Lucas's heavy hand.

What we really need is Jason Court playing Kyle Katarn. Though he's getting too old for the roll.

Remember when the announcement of a new addition to the Star Wars IP would make you cry out in excitement as you anxiously await more details in hopes of diving deeper into that universe?

Yeah.. me neither.

So some more thinly veiled political commentary in Star Wars? Ugh. I'll be taking bets if this will be better or worse than the Star Wars holiday special.

Happy Wookiee Life Day everyone.

Edit: I just realized that maybe they are going to try to do something with Black Sun. Who knows, maybe it will even show the Empire in a good light. So I guess there may be some hope. But probably not.
