sorry if someone already made a thread about this i couldn't find one. but is anyone else annoyed by the diablo 3 commercial thats been plastered over the escapist and tv latley? the one where the guy comes home to clothes strewn about and moaning from upstairs. it's dumb right? it's using sex to sell a game that has nothing to do with sex. like i wouldn't say it's offensive, it doesn't go that far, but it is just annoying. it's one thing to make a sex related add when your game is dragons crown, DOA, or contains even a minor reference to sex in it. i know diablo 3 is a shit game and has no real selling points but come on. even dante's inferno which caught hell for it's sexist ad campaign had a tv spot that was mostly game related and relevent to the source material and to gamers. and they ran it durring the superbowl. but here on a gameing website we get an ad that has fuck all to do with gameing and is a stupid fake double take. i know advertising in general is insulting the inteligence of everyone they sell to but there's this huge disconect mentally for me when i think about diablo 3 and the prospect of nekkid ladies. it's confusing to think they thought this was a good idea. and it's everywhere they spent a ton of money getting this ad put all over the place. i guess it's no big deal really but for all the outrage of forcing sex into games this ad feels like they are just using a crowbar to get some reference to sex in it.

Perhaps I'm being that guy, but this advert was being aired during the superbowl, which - not being an American - is something I imagine attracts fans of sport, not hardcore gamers and RPG fanatics. Making an advert over the loot grinding mechanics and the online auction house won't be memorable to the demographic they're trying to grab, but a joke will. At the end of the day this was a joke and I don't see much wrong with it.

Uh. Have you seen the Diablo 2 advert? It's nothing new. Please stop doing this whole "EHMEGED CONTROVERSYYYIIIII" thing over ad space. And yeah, what the guy above me said. It's a commercial.

well...unfortunately it's c ase of 'it works' and appeals to the lowest common denominator. Those who are educated know if they'll buy it or not, it's the casual gamer that they're trying to sell it to, that 19-25 year old that thinks with his dick.

It's no more annoying than the rest of the pre-video ads floating around the interwebz right now. Like the drunk-driving ad with the ninja cops blending into the background or the Russian set-cleaner advertising clorox wipes. Personally I find the ads for Beyond The Craft and The Sub to be far more annoying than the D3 commercials...those ads refuse to move down as your text box expands so if you've got a lot to say on a certain topic, you'll be dealing with a big fat roll-over video ad sitting right in the middle of your text box.

And how about the captcha ads? Those are right up there in annoyance levels with The Sub and Beyond The Craft.

Hey I resent that, I only think with my dick half of the time!

Haha, no but to be blunt and serious it's not about if you're educated and well versed with games but initially it was for fans of the franchise and to introduce new players to it. Hell it's actually kind of funny how sheep like all of these critics and *nay sayers* are acting just like... Well sheep. If you go and ask someone if they like Diablo 3; 60 percent of them will say "That game sucks" or "it's not Diablo" but won't be able to give you a reason why because they have never played the previous two games (or the third), their just being sheep following the gamers trying to sound cool and smart to there friends, acting like they know shit. There are way too many closed mind gamers including people on this thread who immediately reject something if it changes instead of trying it out themselves with open arms.

Yes Blizzard has been going down hill for a while, yes the art style has changed, yes the story doesn't quite fit with the previous games; but tell me when has that stopped a lot of us from buying or at least trying out a game?

for me, i've played all of them, still have D3 on my pc though the last time i played was like a month or two after launch. you want reasons why the game sucks, i got reasons. 1.zero character growth, no skill points means every monk is exactly the same. every barbarian is exactly the same, there's no uniqueness and there is no way to spec your guy one way or another there is a set build and everyone uses it. thats shitty, 2. randomly generated enemies that are 10x stronger than the boss fights because apparantly they don't want people to do boss runs anymore. 3. blizzards generally shitty attitude. i got my account hacked and blizzard spent half the time trying to sell me an authenticator and the other half acting like it's my fault their security is shit. the auction house isn't even in my top 10 reasons for hating on this game.

and for the record i'm not trying to drum up controversy as i said i don't think the ad is offensive it's just stupid and makes no sense. i just wonder why they would target the gamer demographic with an ad that has maybe 4 seconds of actual diablo 3 related imagery. yeah i get it that their playing to the lcd but i mean it just smacks of having exactly zero knowledge of what appeals to gamers.

1. Can you even paragraph bro?
2. Sex sells
3. The advert is funny and was made to get people not interested in gaming, interested in D3.

Ok first, a sexual ad is nothing like go harass real life booth babes and send pictures in for prizes that was dante's infernal.

Second it's a type of ad. It wasn't a bad ad, and follows a trope of ads that person opens door and sees something completely different from what they expect. After that it shows an equal amount of gameplay. It's a 30 second ad they can't fit much into it ;p
