Oblivion was kinda a crossroads for me. The game had a lot of innovations, but it had a couple flaws that just made it unimpressive and totally painful to play whenever I got the urge. It's annoying, because the potential is obviously there, but it just falls facefirst whenever it actually has to do anything. I'd like to see Elder Scrolls 5 step back on the innovation and work on making the ideas they currently have in the game gold. I'd accept a game-changing innovation, but I get the feeling that any innovation or change that'd be big enough to make the game less of a monotonous brown western RPG would take the piss outta the whole Elder Scrolls series.
There hasn't actually been any news from Bethesta about TES5, but they copyrighted Skyrim I believe just after TES4 came out, meaning it's somehow gonna be featured heavily enough by the company. Wikipedia is quoted as quoting them as saying that there's not gonna be a new TES game for a while, meaning probably not till 2011 at least, if not 2012
