I'm surprised they didn't mention Saga, it was pretty good, though if memory serves they refused to get a publisher or something and wasn't able to get the funding to add too much, and a small player base.

Though the RTS part of Saga did feel clumsy to me (then again, I'd been playing BFME2)

why not put the whole thing in space? you have a mothership/fleet and harvest resources by building outposts on asteroids/planets and the units are limited by the space in dropships and the number of dropships a combat zone can support. You even can explain what happens to the fleet when you log out, space is big and you are invisibly when not moving.
and for some reason there are no ship-to-ship weapons.
I was thinking something like this, but instead you have a planet rather than a mothership (eliminating the ship-to-ship weapon thing)
and portals get your troops to a new destination?
that's even better, when you are offline so is the portal on your planet and you can't be attacked.
Didn't think that far ahead, but that's a good premise there. Motherships would probably stand better as units rather than bases anyways, opening the doors for multiple fleets (Galactic Empire anyone?)

I'm reminded now of Star Wars Empire at war (on the premise, not really the execution) Where they had land and ground battles where orbital defenses needed to be pierced in order to start planatary invasions and such as opposed to maybe "oops I blew up the fleet around your planet now it's mine" It can add a lot of depth, though probably a lot of extra work...

Hmmm Bacon vs Narwhal. Not a match-up I'd ever personally considered. I'm gonna have to give this one to narwhal. But then again, who knows what the criteria is.
I don't know about you, but that just makes me want Narwhal bacon, mmm tastes like endangerment.

Oh god... so much bettwer quality than the escapist vids (in terms of video and sound quality, not content) Im sorry but it is. Its just so jarring to realise how poor the uploads have had to be here.

Seems a bit soon for a new vid after the whole implosion thing but i guess its saying "We are still here without you **finger**" and i guess they are still dedicated to weekly vids.
more like they already had some eps finished, and they have fans that would be disappointed to not have a new vid despite the current cluster fuck

interesting topic though >.> i know people that would be interested in this

So... They don't own the IP, but, are doing it anyway.

What could possibly go wrong.
Well, it's Extra Creditz now as opposed to Extra Credits. Even one letter can make a difference. Capitalism's a *****, ain't it?
Extra Credit(z) can do this but Mojang is getting sued for using the word 'scrolls'?
I really don't understand copyright law....

Show's just as great as before it seems, thankfully. Good on the EC crew; they seem determined to keep the show going despite all this shitstorm spinning around the escapist.

Liked the episode, too. I've always wondered how different kinds of mmos (besides the ever popular RPG) could work with different genres. The "limited resources per battle" model seems like it'd have potential. Though I feel they *could* make an mmorts somewhat like starcraft in that the instanced battles they mentioned could have resource gathering, but the resources gathered in instanced battles wouldn't carry over. Just a thought.
Wouldn't that just confuse players and eventually divide the community anyways? Not to mention cause the devs a huge headache by having to create 2 different games within a single game. Why would a player venture into the other if they are good at one and not so good at the other? It would lead to half the community (give or take) playing it solo until they lost interest since there would be no overarching story to carry them through it.

Not necessarily, Extra credits owns the rights to their own work unless otherwise agreed upon when the show began. EG. a TV station doesn't own the programs they run unless they created the programs in-house. But A graphic designer doesn't own the artwork they create when the are working for a design company.
I don't know the situation but yeah. its all unfortunate.
:(

That's what the IP is- Intellectual Property. It's basically ownership.

is it just me, or did they leave one site where the "only sometimes got paid" and joined a site where they won't get paid at all, only to have someone repost the same material on the original site anyway, deliberately depriving that site of ad revenue thereby influencing it's ability to pay other contributers, potentially giving rise to similar problems, rinse, repeat, etc?

seems like kind of a dick move more than anything else

in either case... great video, if somewhat idealistic, as per usual
No. It's just you. With the loss of the infrastructure needed to host their videos, and the fact that they don't have their own, they had to find somewhere else with the infrastructure to host videos.

Surprise, that's what YouTube was made for.
so what you're saying is... yes, they did leave one site where the "only sometimes got paid" and joined a site where they won't get paid at all... which is exactly what i said... so it's not just me! hey there!

(also keeping in mind that the "loss of infrastructure" was more like "abandoning infrastructure that works quite well", essentially changing it from "we went here because we had to" to "we went here because we could", which sort of reinforces my point...)
