To those people saying multi platform never hurt anybody and that they hate exclusive games. Take a look at the quality of multi platform games and compare them to the likes of Uncharted 2 and various other exclusives for the PS3 and tell me the PS3 exclusives aren't way better in technical quality than multi platform titles or even 360 exclusive titles. I'm not against more people playing the game but, I hate it when no one ever seems to realise the damage that is done to a game when it goes to multiple platforms. I want this game exclusive because I want the best of the best and I'm not going to get it if it goes multi platform. If this all sounds selfish, I don't really care.
The quality of what? The graphics?
According to the press the best game of 2010 was either Red Dead Redemption or Mass Effect 2, neither one of which is an exclusive game. Exclusives allow for better graphics sure, but really beyond that there's very little difference between going multi-platform and staying exclusive.
As for this game, the CGI looks fantastic yes, but the gameplay itself looks, to put it bluntly, laughably bad. If this is what people are getting excited about I'm amazed at how quickly peoples opinions can be swayed by pretty graphics. It just looks like a generic button-masher, the cursor didn't appear to leave the "attack" section on the menu to the left so I assume the player was doing nothing bar constantly hit it...how is that any different from FFXIII? Crisis Core, Kingdom Hearts 2 both had the same issue, what makes you think this is going to be any different?
Furthermore the camera looked awful, yes it's early doors [I guess] but when showing off your first footage making it look this bad is just a joke. There seems to be a bit of gameplay variety with the various mechs and third person shooting but again this is hardly new ground, Lost Planet did both of these gameplay sections in a larger environment than was shown in the trailer. The animations looked poor and were often overly dramatic, mixed in with the "cinematic" camera elements that took control from the player it seems to be once again all style over substance...
And the story was penned by the Kingdom Hearts team. That pretty much guarantees it's going to be complete shit with some Shakespeare concepts seemingly thrown in so the moronic fanbase can claim it's deep...
In all, I'm not impressed, it might help if I knew what they were saying but for me Final Fantasy Type-0 looks to be the most interesting out of the trio of games.
You do realise this is all our opinions right?
Before going into things, I apologise for it being so long and don't expect you to read it all.
To me, I thought the in game graphics were noticeably better than XIII (especially the outside environment) All the action events were much more fluent (as in things happened without fading to black while it shortly loads a new event like XIII did with a lot of cutscenes. Also, the missiles and other things crashing around them in other scenes are examples of things happening seamlessly similar in a way to the events in Uncharted 2) than anything XIII showed me. Also, you used Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption as examples of games without perfect graphics being highly praised, again this is opinion from other people, those games had no real appeal to me (I only played Mass Effect 2 for a bit and it was somewhat fun but again, nothing spectacular to me personally). Also, the scenario writer for versus XIII is my favourite for Final Fantasy, he did 7, 8, 10 and Crisis Core and the Kingdom Hearts games. I personally haven't played much of Kingdom Hearts however, I was quite interested in them and their stories (again I haven't played much of the Kingdom Hearts games so I don't know the whole picture when it comes to the series) Many people seem to pass off the stories of the Final Fantasy games as being lame and trying too hard to be deep and dramatic as it seems you do (your shakespeare comment) however, I have found them to be the most amazing stories I have seen in video games. If it wasn't for the Final Fantasy series, I wouldn't actually have as much respect for story telling in video games as I do now. Perhaps the story telling doesn't suit your taste because they are Japanese games and from what I've experienced (which is a fair bit of japanese media in the games and animation department) They do tell stories in very different ways which I can understand as just coming off as weird to someone that isn't into them. An popular example is a lot of people say that characters like Noctis looks girly and emo and various characters from final fantasy and anime in general however I actually like those kinds of character designs maybe because I am used to it.
Personally the action looked fun, of course we both haven't played it so we don't know if it is really like what you say it is. I also enjoyed the camera angles, I saw nothing majorly wrong with them, perhaps some being a bit awkward. The animations to me were perfectly acceptable and from what I could see (I admit, the video being so bad quality made it hard for me to really know how good they were) seemed more refined than XIII. Also the fact that other games have had similar gameplay things to it before (like your example of Lost Planet) does not mean it is bad. People called Castlevania Lords of Shadows a rip off of other hack and slash games, I still enjoyed it a lot. Being a copy or similar to something else does not mean it won't be fun. About it being purely pressing one button to attack, we haven't seen what the whole game has to offer, there were a number of spells being thrown around sometimes that you or the A.I. might have to use. Maybe we will use it ourselves when playing the game? Again, neither of us really know, we also don't know if they were playing very seriously, they may have been just trying to make some footage for the trailer.
Being exclusive doesn't just mean better graphics, it could mean a whole lot of content. For example, I'd like it if the game came with the english and japanese voices, I remember reading an interview asking the team that did XIII if it was going to have it and I remember them saying it wouldn't fit on the DVD format so neither versions of the game would have it (this is old memories and I could actually being remembering it quite differently) Even if that interview was different to how I remembered it, there is still the possibility of that being the case for many games. Also having extra areas and other things in which to explore and do may have been cut out because they couldn't fit it on the DVD. There was news that XIII had a lot of content cut from it, however they never said why, it may have been because of the 360 version, however it may not of been.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, this game looks awesome to me (not JUST in the graphics department) and again I must state that both of our opinions are purely based off a trailer and we have no idea what the final game might be. What you saw as trash in the trailer, I saw it as awesome. Also, a multi platform game can be awesome, I am not saying I can't enjoy a game if it's on multiple platforms, I just like it if a game had the most potential in every department of it's development especially when it comes to the Final Fantasy series seeing how it is such an important series to me and I want each game to be the best it can.
Sorry if my reply seemed as though I was angry or anything else like that because it wasn't meant to sound that way. I was just stating that what I saw, I liked, which is obviously from your post is much different to the way you feel about it.
