I installed a new 1060 into my rig, and the fan won't spin. I installed the drivers, and tried forcing it with MSI Afterburner, but it won't spin.

It should work, since it initially spun on boot up, so what could be the problem?

You know, I think I had that same 1060, and it wouldn't initially spin. Try to boot up a game and see if they start spinning once you're actually putting a load on it. Might not be set to spin until it passes a certain power threshold or something.

Edit: Check to make sure you've got the power connector firmly plugged in too.

I tested it with the Doom demo, and it spun fine. I was initially worried because it didn't spin with Mad Max, but maybe it was because I was in one of the bases.

Yeah, try playing that again and get into some combat or something where the game has to track models and physics and effects and stuff. Oughtta start up. These new cards come with more advanced power settings that the user can tweak, if you want the fans to spin all the time maybe look into that.

Yep, check any bundled GPU software and ask about it on their site. It could be that the profile the bundled software is set to will attempt to save power and only trigger some fans above a certain load/temperature.

It must be programmed to turn off the fan when it falls below a certain work load.

I have a PSU that had a switchable hybrid mode for its fan. Never used it initially but I must have accidentally switched it on during a clean out. Scared me a bit as I feared I'd have to seek a replacement.

I found this while googling the issue, it seems to be by design:

I realize that now, but, in my defense, it didn't spin when I briefly booted up Mad Max (which, as well freaking optimized as it is, is still relatively new).
