New Harry Potter Trailer: Harry Goes Gears of War

Now, it's has admittedly been awhile since I read the book, but if this trailer is anything to go by then they are taking quite a few liberties with the plot.

Oh, and I honestly don't know how to feel about Harry Potter becoming a third-person shooter - except with wands!

So, fellow Escapists, what are your thoughts on it?

Looks like a lot of fun, actually. As long as the movie sticks closer to the book than this, I don't mind the game taking liberties in the name of making it fun. From what I remember of the book, it would be hard to work into any of the currently common genres without making major changes. It might work as an RPG, but then it would need almost as much combat as we're seeing here. It could also work as an adventure game, but then the actual fight scenes from the book would suck. Besides, haven't they been taking liberties with the games since The Sorcerer's Stone?

And I actually love that they are taking a few liberties with the plot. It's been a while for me too, but I remember the book being very heavily geared towards the mystery of the 4 remaining horcruxes (especially for the first half, which this book covers) and was a little light on the action. A lot of internal struggle was going on.

Internal struggle usually makes for a damn boring game.

I never expect games to follow too closely to the books/movies because of this. They have to keep the player engaged.

this looks good, then again i will not assume it will be great untill i see more than one trailer. i have a feeling it will be good but not great. but only time will tell.

Only Harry Potter game I'm looking foward to is the Lego one out later this month. I will admit this one does look like it could be quite entertaining

yeah, dont like the dragon...and i love dragons... but that one doesn't fit in with the story, i really don't mind the third person shooter aspect they made...what could you do with it to make it feel action-y??? i'm not sure first person would work out, but its worth a try... yeah i probably wont buy it but...looks fine to me...

The only way I would play this is if someone added a chainsaw bayonet attachment to the wand.

Did anyone else notice that it said Part 1? I really do hope they'll do that with the movie since it's the last one and it's too big to cram it all in a 2-3 hour long movie.

Well, for the first time ever, a Harry Potter game has piqued my interest. Not to say I'm excited for it, or that I think it will be good, but it actually looks like it could be fun.
