It looks like there will be a new Overlord [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZheVXS6rkRQ] game coming. The style seems to be very different this time around, as the game looks more of a Diablo-something-Gauntlet problem-solver devoid of minions.

While I wasn't all that fond of Overlord 2, I have very positive memories of the first, and the singular evil Overlord is iconic to this type of setting. Replacing him with 4 "not-so-much-Over"-lords just might lead to a very different game.

Have you ever heard of a good vs evil saga where the good side relied on a single strong entity while the evil side was composed of multiple weaker ones? No? That's because good is always about cooperation and strength through unity, while evil is egoistic, selfish, and untrustworthy. That is also a part of the charm of Overlord. Or was, as my well be the case.

The trailer shows a little gameplay at the end. What do you think? Will this be a different game altogether? Can they even pull it off? I was really looking forward to being evil, and smacking a few minions around. Now, I'm not sure if evil is going to be all that fun anymore.

the 2 videos they posted on their youtube give a little more detail.

It's isometric, kind of Diablo-like viewpoint, with co-op, but they say it'll work one player.

They have still got Gnarl, and Rihanna Pratchett is still writing the story, so I'm cautiously optimistic, bit I won't be pre-ordering.

But will I get to club seals again? This is the most important factor!.

I liked the minion puzzles but I don't think I could buy it full price unless its a massive improvement upon the original games in scale and ingenuity so maybe I'll wait for sales.

It's worth pointing out that this game is NOT by the original series developers.

As for the game itself, could be fun but an Overlord game where you're not controlling the minions is kinda, well, what's the point? That was the best part of the previous two games, strip that away and I'm not sure how much you're really left with.

They seem to have the same name, same writer,... and that is the entire list of things this game has in common with the real franchise. So in short this shit isn't Overlord.
Also all the gameplay looks curiously linear for an ARPG and very low quality, it's almost as if someone is making a mobile game, really wouldn't put it past them at this point.

Good spot with the different developer. I didnt even notice that. Not going to buy this game, its nothing like the last two. Plus it seems like they took the humour out of the game.

WAAT?

Humor is what made the whole thing come together. Overlord without sarcasm doesn't work, then it's just a puzzle-game with lemmings.

I really liked overlord 1 and 2. I don't really like the style of this new one, so am likely to either avoid it or pick it up during a sale.

Kind of sad after watching that video, Overlord 1 and 2 was both flawed games but loved what they tried too do. This just seems boring. Will keep a eye on it but not a lot of hope.

While I generally don't mind spin-offs in a different genre, I just hope this won't kill off the franchise, I'd like to see a legit Overlord III some day.

Oh it'll have humour, it's got the same writer on board, Rihanna Pratchett, and the same voice actor playing Gnarl, so that part I have NO worries about.

But.. They've stripped out the main gameplay feature from it!
This isn't Overlord anymore, this is just some random ARPG that has barely anything to do with Overlord!
This is like the atrocity that was CnC4, stripping the main feature out of the game and then running with it.

Yeah, I'm not liking the idea of Overlord game without the minions...should have just made it in a different series. Might be able to forgive it since they are not calling it Overlord III and if you just consider it another game in the same setting as the Overlord games, but not the successor of the series.

So does this mean that Codemaster's business strategy of only making racing games is dead in the water?

(Also, hadn't realized that Overlord was written by a Pratchett, may have to finally get round to checking it out)

Not only did they change the genre drastically and kill of the main character of the last game off screen, which is a big no-no, the trailer doesn't even make sense. If the minions can bring back the dead, why don't they just bring back a proper Overlord? Hell, the Overlord from the first game is still alive and basically Diablo now, just bring him back.

Seems kind of like sacred 3 dosent it?, different developer, co-op , isometric view . and that feeling of dread that a series you loved is going to get a shit third game.
