There was a Jurassic Park game like this where you had a blue barcode scanner with some game buttons and you could scan barcodes to get "DNA" which you could use to unlock new dinosaurs and techniques depending on how you fit the "DNA" pieces together in an area. Sorta like a combination of Tetris and the Bioschock plumber minigame.

I have a real girlfriend, but I'm tempted by curiosity to try this out. Then again, I'd feel like a creeper if I did.

I remember I once had a Pokemon rip-off barcode monster-battling system that worked sort of like this. I gave it up quickly as it was incredibly boring, but I imagine that people using this would have an entirely different... motivation than I did.
