Could care less about the title, but I don't really like co-op, so that's a bit of a turn off. Still, wait and see I suppose.

I think it still sounds like a Tomb Raider game. I think the 'tomb raider' moniker is loose and has been since the second game.

Just because they say it doesn't make it so...

I suppose I don't really care what they call it, but "Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light" is an absolutely terrible title that makes it sound like they're trying to make the series feel more like an Indiana Jones rip-off than it already was in the first place. Lara just does not have a title-worthy name.

Man, I haven't played a Tomb Raider game since the demo of Tomb Raider II way the hell back in the 90's. And only that for the polygonal boobage.

Well, maybe I'll pick this one up if it doesn't turn out to be a steaming pile of bad gameplay and advanced secondary motion engine.

Not really she did raid alot of tombs in tomb raider the last revelation, not so much tomb raider 3 though.

The first four are pretty much masterpieces especially the first two (i still play them from time to time) but the new ones don't do much for me especially aniversary which made me wanting a proper tomb raider remake instead of a shitty reimagine version. I think it's good that they are trying to change things abit so i don't know, maybe i'll keep a eye out for this one.

I'm not saying there were no tombs but so many levels were not tombs I don't think removing the words from the next game's title is going to change anything. If we did a list of the levels from TR II onwards the number of levels that aren't tombs would outweigh those that are. Maybe include the TR as well I think the definition is loose.

Gamers might just have to get used to the much harder-to-see isometric boobies.
... D'you hear that? That's the sound of millions of male gamers across the globe losing interest.

Seriously though, as far as spin-off titles go, it sounds interesting. I'm not a fan of the Tomb Raider games myself (I never even got into the original games. I played Angel of Darkness for, like an hour, ages ago, but lost interest quickly), but this definitely sounds worth a look, especially as it's available as a cheap downloadable title.

And now that I mention it, why is it Carmen Sandiego and Lara Croft have never worked with or against each other, that strikes me as a rather awesome idea.
Because they're the SAME person.

Now, what is the punishment to Tom Goldman for comparing Tomb Ra... Lara Croft (I don't know how to do strikethroughs) to Lost Vikings? Death by sloppy camera controls?

I hope so..... She raids tombs, it's just what she does. You can't change that dammit!
It better have Tomb Raider in the title, or I'm going to...Oh, who am I kidding. I'm going to play it regardless. I'll just be unhappy if it doesn't have Tomb Raider in the title.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and shits in the park like a duck, it's still a duck. Just because labeling a game "tomb raider" is now a bad idea as it brings up associations with more bad games than good ones doesn't mean that extracting the title will save this game or automatically boost sales. From the gameplay mechanic changes they're making, it sounds like someone at Crystal Dynamics (who should be making another Legacy of Kain game, goddammit!) played a little Uncharted and thought "wow, this is what Tomb Raider should have been all along." From the name change it sounds like someone in marketing thought "Hey, Lara Croft is still a gamer household name that doesn't draw bad associations like the titles of all the games she's in. Let's change the title to her name!"

Those two people run across each other at the Crystal Dynamic office mixer and wham, a new but very familiar franchise is born.

Yeahhh I might pick it up, although I didn't bother with Underworld.

The new ones just don't have the difficulty of the classics (ie. Tomb Raider III). The puzzles on those ones were bastard-hard sometimes.

Ah well :)

Co-op play... in that game... That's... the worst idea ever. I won't pass judgment till I have the ability to play it for myself.

I dont think this would be a bad thing actually.

They have the tried, truse and tested formula for the games. So, it would be nice to see them mix it up a little. They have a solid francise, might as well expand on it!

Lara Croft: Diablo Clone Raider 1: Isometric Titties.

Why did Eidos give up Tomb Raider?

Don't worry, we didn't. Crystal are working on two games right now, this one is something different, new and also full of win. We'll be releasing more info at GDC.

I dunno "Grave robber" and "The klepto" both have a nice ring to them if you ask me.

"Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light," eh?

Does this mean Lara will get a fedora and a bullwhip?
