So Bioware have released a new DLC for Mass Effect 2 today known as the 'Equalizer Pack'. It costs 160 MS or Bioware points and gives you access to 3 new items for your character:

The 'Archon Visor' that "Manages omni-tools and biotic amps, reducing the recharge time of Shepard's powers."

The 'Capacitor Helmet' that "Stores power for kinetic barriers, allowing Shepard's shields to recharge faster."

As well as the 'Inferno Armor' that "Speeds up Shepard's movements and increases his tech and biotic power damage, additionally stress analysis software even gives him an edge in negotiations outside of combat. "

So what do people think? Is it worth the money, something you can't wait to equip your Shepard with? Or a pointless DLC when they could have made something longer lasting?

Personally I think the visor and helmet look pretty cool, but I don't really care about the armour or the stats. The problem for me is that I have played Mass Effect 2 three times now and am on a break from my fourth play-through. As such I am not really excited enough to be getting it. Sure they look cool, but this is the kind of thing to release early on when everyone is playing it, not after a few months time when people have either played it to death or simply moved on.

I also don't understand why they'd make the Zaeed mission and Firewalker pack free, but then charge small amounts for a few items or clothing here and there. It'd make a lot more sense for these to be free while charging 400MS for the two previously mentioned packs in my opinion (although this way it's cheaper, so we can't complain really).

While I was hoping for something a little more exciting when I heard there was a new DLC, I am sure I will get the pack whenever I start playing again, it's pretty cheap and I will be playing the game a few more times prior to Mass effect 3's release anyway.

I guess I don't consider a few pieces of gear to be worthwhile contributions to "content". The Kasumi DLC took only 30 minutes at most to finish. I'd much rather one or two very good DLCs that cost $40 than a lot of pretty much rubbish ones for $8.

Agreed, this isn't the sort of thing you release months after it's been out and played to death by most of it's devoted fanbase. The alternative appearance package still tops the cake though of being utterly pointless. At least this has some advantage towards gameplay.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Bioware sucks at making DLC. Like, really sucks.

Their best DLC was "The Stone Prisoner" and it was free with new copies of Dragon Age. And even then, I'd never have PAID for it.

Another helmet, thanks BioWare. I wouldn't have minded this DLC if they hadn't teased us with ''First, make sure to tune in early next week for some exciting news about upcoming DLC!'', I wouldn't be upset (they better actually have some 'exciting news', up their sleeves soon or I'll mumble darkly in their general direction.....)

Stone Prisoner was actually pretty good.. Not worth 15 quid, granted, but it was pretty cool. Shale was one of the best-developed characters.

Pretty much the reason for my annoyance as well. "Exciting" to me means something every fan of the series wouldn't want to wait to get their hands on. Hell, I was checking their site like crazy after they announced details would be released soon.

I have only played Mass Effect 2's and most of it was pretty good considering it was free in my opinion, definitely not enough to pay for though. Kasumi's was good although too short and lacking proper conversational options.

It makes the whole Cerberus Network seem redundant considering pretty much everything has been chargeable since the immediate releases.

I think poor DLC has just become a trend to be honest. I thought the new DLC for L4D2 was good, but I am extremely glad I have the PC version and got it for free. I'd be pissed off otherwise.

I really don't see the point. The character that I've played through with twice so far is an infiltrator, and I wouldn't swap out my current head-shot damage increasing visor for either of those. And the Inferno armour was a pre-order bonus for some stores and isn't actually a new item, they're just making it available to more people as part of this pack. I'd honestly have preferred another purely cosmetic costume pack than this, although preferably one with less crappy eye wear than the last.

And the use of the word Horizon (with capitals) gave a lot of people hope that it would offer some sort of follow up to the terrible cameos on Horizon, but no................. Not to mention Shepard looks a right t*t in the helmet and visor ;-)

I'll be getting it. Considering the number of times I replay the games, it's easily worth the money.

DLC in my eyes is the downfall of full games, before this gen we could be perfectly happy with getting games on a disc and that being it. Now, everything needs DLC and we aren't even happy, we all want more. Us gamers are spoiled brats with our achievements and DLC, oooooh god forbid the companies adding secrets that aren't easter eggs, downloadable or given away by achievements. Pffft...next time Bioware, fuck the DLC and just work longer on the game perfecting it and adding secrets, oh and a tip for 360/Ps3 devs, make getting achievements more skillful instead of go here do that, use a weapon 50 times...ARGH...sorry

I agree. although that's because my completionist/perfectionist nature makes me want to get all achievements and DLC, regardless of whether it adds anything.

Although I am not as bad as friend of mine. He won't buy a game if it has achievements he cannot get all of (Gears of War 100,000 kills for example) or if it requires DLC to get all the achievements.

So long after release, and THIS is what they come up with?
I was expecting a sidequest line, a subplot, perhaps a new star system to investigate and maybe annihilate.

But this? No. Just no.

I can't help but find the two new helmets to be extremely... silly looking. Good bonuses, sure, but that doesn't stop them from looking wonky xD

But being CHARGED? No, thank you. I've already made the mistake of buying overpriced material and being extremely underwhelmed by the experience (One of Fable II's addon quest things... bad idea). Excluding the rare instance the stuff is of high quality, I refuse to buy more DLC like this. I understand that fans'll get it, anyhow... but not for me.

Though, technically, you DID pay for it, because as I recall, it was only free with new copies of the "deluxe" or "special" editions of the game, which were about $15 more than the original price.

Free with my basic $60 360 version. Had the code inside and everything.

I can't believe they are charging for this. Do they just decide at the flip of a coin whether to charge for dlc or what? We get free dlc which has more content that the paid dlc. They give us multiple missions free, yet charge for something incredibly minor like bits of armour, its nonsensical. Personally I think this particular piece of dlc should be free to cerebus network members. I love Bioware, I love ME2, but what are they doing with dlc seriously, the mucked it up for ME1 as well. They need to take some tips from Valve.
