Is it just me or are the metroid games just absolutely amazing? I know Nintendo have been beating this franchise stupid, whacking it like a pinata that should have run out years ago, hoping some small nuggets might still fall out but still, I absolutely loved Metroid Prime 3 and super metroid and metroid fusion... I just hope the new one is going to be as good as the last ones released?!
Any thoughts on the new metroid game? I don't know much about it but I heard it was announced at E3, and it's going to be made with the people who made Ninja Gaiden? Merr I just hope they dont ruin it!

Indeed, Metroid rules! I'm not too worried about its quality. Remember, everyone though Metroid Prime was going to be horrible and it turned out to be (in my opinion) one of the finest games of its generation. We'll see though...

It is not so much beating a dead horse as it is continuing to dig in a giant mine full of diamonds.

Yeah that's true. And I agree that something new needs to be added, even though metroid prime 3 is an amazing game, people would accuse nintendo of just letting it go stale. But are the Ninja gaiden team going to bring what it needs? I actually don't know, I'm just sceptical because my brother says that ninja gaiden is not like metroid and is quite horrible to play :(

this new game "Metroid: Other M" (I think that's its name) looks like it could be sweet. But I don't have a Wii, so I will never know...
EDIT: It doesn't look as good as the other ones, but it still looks like a cool game.

It plays fine, the problem is that they are very different games. Metroid is about being a rat in a maze where all the walls are electrified, Ninja gaiden is about lopping off the heads of everyone in site while there are fountains of blood everywhere. Also team ninja made the Dead or Alive games, which invented the breast giggle meter.

It looks to me like Metroid: Other M is a healthy mix of the old 2D Metroids of yore and the Prime series, which is probably the best mix since Mel Gibson and Danny Glover got together in the 80s.

If it isn't awesome, I will eat my hat, and this

sums up my thoughts on it perfectly.

Haha I'm glad to see I'm not alone in loving metroid games, a lot of people don't understand it, which is a terrible shame. I'm going to stop now, because it sounds like I'm in love with the game, and while that may be true, physical relations would be difficult to establish... Well I think I've got my information to put my mind at ease :)

Personally, I want to know why Nintendo axed Retro Studios in making this new metroid. They did a great job on the three Primes. I just have a bad feeling that Other M isnt going to be nearly as good. Just look at Metroid Prime: Hunters, it wasnt made by Retro Studios, and in my opinion not nearly as good as Prime one. Hopefully Team Ninja will be able to pull it off. Either that, or they will kill one of the only series that has a decent heroine. On a note of speculation, if the title of "Other M" actually is the name of the game and not a "We have no idea in hell what we are going to call the game yet," then the name could suggest an alternate time line, I hope not, or it could be about another armor clad bounty hunter w/ Chozo infused blood, or it could just be about another species of Metroid.

I played the first game and I couldn't figure out where to go. I went to the left and right as far as I could and didn't see anything.

I'll probably buy it just because... I still think Prime 2 was the worst of the series though... seemed too... different...

The wise thing to do is probably to withhold judgement... but I think some fairly safe guesses can be made using the E3 trailer. Other M will be more action oriented (Ninja Gaiden style)... Samus finally gets to talk...and like in MP3 Corruption talking NPC's will be included. I just hope Team Ninja will leave the story to Nintendo.

I think Metroid Prime was the best in the series. Seems like Other M is trying to combine several genres, which is great if they succeed. But to quote Yahtzee, if I may: "Spinning one plate is impressive, but spin three plates at the same time and you'll be digging porcelain out of your face."

Exactly. Why is it whenever a franchise has run for more than a decade people think that it should die? There is so much that hasn't been explained or explored in the Metroid universe, it's expansive.

Retro did great with Metroid, but they really need to try something else now, perhaps they could even give Kid Icarus a go or something. Also the difference is on Prime it was Solely Retro working on the game, and now it's one of Nintendo's studios AND Team Ninja. I'm very interested to see what happens, I just hope Team Ninja isn't a shell of their former selves after people like that rapist (I forget his name) and the other staff left.

If you ask me, Prime 2 just dropped you into a world and said 'cool, see you at the end'. It was so expansive it gave you no direction as to where you were supposed to go. Prime 3 was almost linear without being linear in comparison.

Yeah really... I had to go look at a walk through (literally) every 5 minutes to figure out where to go in the game... And the ammo limits on the beams didn't really seem to fit...

I'm a big fan of the series, and Metroid Prime 1 is still my favorite game, but I am feeling a little unnerved by what I've seen of Metroid: Other M. We don't need the Metroid series to devolve into just another generic beat-em-up, or whatever it looks like this game is going to be. The series has always had a unique feeling of loneliness that I really enjoyed (Okay, not so much in Fusion and MP3) and to get rid of the beautiful exploration and adventure that makes the series tick and make it into some "cool" game will really be a shame. Also, didn't anyone think that the graphics of actual gameplay in the trailer looked a little lacking? Of course, I should probably wait until the game comes out to pass judgment, but that's just how I feel.

I guess if there wasn't a limit, you'd be dark/sunbursting all over the place, and the game would be cake.
