So im after some new music.

I like nightwish at the moment so i looked for similar band but the biggest problem i run into is songs with lyrics i cant understand. i have no problem with foreign music its more the screaming metal singers.

like earlier i was listening to an epica song i think, thinking this sounds pretty good then it starts the raspy screaming of lyrics.

so any idea, band like nightwish that arent screaming incomphensible lyrics at me?

I don't know who Nightwish are, but here's a fairly heavy, very good band that I like called Fucked Up

They're honestly very good, their name doesn't do them justice

I just started listening to the band yesterday, and I can't believe how much I like their songs already. Can't go wrong with the band Charon, either.

Aura by ShamRain

Ride on Tears by Charon

I think Nightwish do that kind of music better than any other band, but you should take a look at Lacuna Coil, Lacrimosa and, to a lesser extent, Evanescence.

Opeth does a lot of their stuff in that style, cleaner vocals with heavy riffs, although recently their style has drifted from metal altogether.

I saw them at Reading, and the fat singer being touched up in the crowd made want to vomit.

I suggest you check out.

Halestorm
We are the Fallen
Cryoshell
Deadlock
Fireflight
Icon for hire
In this Moment
Eyes set to Kill
Otep
Kittie
Die Mannequin
The Birthday Massacre
The Agonist
Flyleaf
Civet
Lacuna Coil
Evanescence
Within Temptation

Most of them are Metalcore, and not Gothic, but I think you will like them.

I listened to a couple of songs by the following and formed these opinions
Jazoni89 said:
Halestorm- pretty good, will look up further. Reminds me of Joan Jett.
We are the Fallen- reminded me of Evanescence, which is not a good thing.
Cryostasis- couldn't find anything by them, it was all a videogame... or a PC?
Deadlock- not to my tastes
Fireflight- better than Deadlock, but still not for me
Icon for hire- not for me
Die Mannequin- good, will look up further
The Birthday Massacre- alright, not as good as the previous band
The Agonist- awful, sorry
Flyleaf- better than the Agonist, still not for me
Lacuna Coil- the song I listened to was a cover of one of my favorite songs (Enjoy the Silence), which they just about did justice to. Not awful, they at least have good taste.
Evanescence- no need, I know these guys well enough
Considering that this is not the sort of music I would ever usually even go near, to find two bands I actually quite liked was pretty good, and they were two of the bands you said I would definitely like!

Might I suggest one of my own?
I'd say you might, and I mean might, like PJ Harvey.

here are two videos of hers

Thankyou, I will check these out, but I'm generally not at all into harcore or anything with screaming so I don't hold out much hope. Fucked Up are a bit of an anomaly for me
Then you will enjoy Die mannequin, Fireflight, Icon for hire, and Halestorm from that list.

Check those out first.

(Also OP, check these bands out as well)

here are two videos of hers

You being Serious?

Of course I like PJ Harvey. I mean, who doesn't?

My favourites are Man size, Rid of me, Perfect day elise, and This is love.

Have you checked out Warpaint, they are incredibly good. I've seen them twice, and even shook hands with them.

Best all female band since the grrrl movement.

(also, i have to agree, out of all of those i would say Die mannequin, and Halestorm are the best. Most of those are kinda likes anyway.)

You'd be surprised by the number of people who either haven't heard of her, or don't like her. This is the most positive response to her I've ever received! For me, my favorites are the two i sent you, Good Fortune, Down by the Water, Dress and the whole of Let England Shake. I'll look Warpaint up, I'm just happy someone else likes PJ Harvey.

What about Nightwish do you like? Are you looking for symphonic metal, metal in general with clean vocals, female-fronted metal bands, operatic vocals? There are about 48573489057034897 power metal bands out there.

[sub]Somehow that one reminds me of old MCR, the Scissor Sisters, and Rhapsody of Fire all mixed up...[/sub]

The last one reminds me of Elvenking. Did you listen to them?

Simple and pretty with a touch of "brutality", I guess.

Ask for more songs with clean vocals if you want.

Amaranthe - Hunger

Saw them recently at a festival, doing both acoustic and normal. Very good in both cases.
