Well i hope for that too friend i dont care if they give us the classic contorller with it (as long as the contorller is bigger)Shoggoth2588 said:I found the motion control to be the biggest gimmick (a view I share with many others). Not all of the Wii titles were bad or gimmicky though. Donkey Kong is my favorite Wii-game and that hardly uses the motion controls if you don't want it too. I've heard similar comments about Kirby's Epic Yarn. As for Mario Kart Wii and, SSBB, You can use gamecube controllers for those, in both cases I've found I have more control over what I'm doing.Andy Chalk said:"Nintendo is doing this one right," an anonymous source told the site. "[It's] not a gimmick like the Wii."

In its own report, IGN [http://wii.ign.com/articles/116/1161875p1.html] claims the new unit will be "significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360" and will offer backwards-compatibility with current Wii software, suggesting that the current Wii control scheme will also be supported, although it will presumably be significantly evolved.
While it sounds promising, the fact that the next console will be backwards compatable has me scratching my head over the control scheme since a majority of the wii games I've seen require you to use either the wii-mote or the wii-mote/ nunchuck combo.
Nintendo seems to have always been like that with peripherals though so I hope the next console comes packed with a standard controller. HD graphics don't matter too much to me at this point.
Hypothetically, at least. All I know is that I have yet to see someone playing one in public.Irridium said:But they just released the 3DS. Which is keeping the cash flow coming.

I guess they need to beef up their gear now that both competitors provide the same capabilities and are much more capable. Or, perhaps, they have a new gimmick planned.
Oh, agreed it won't look any better, not at first at least. Graphics have hit the point where more graphical power required massive development increases. And I have no interest in buying a new system, I was just wondering what you were getting at.OutrageousEmu said:I'm saying it won't outclass it in performance. Given its a certainty this thing will be far more expensive than either the Ps3 or 360, and likely won't offer any better results, I'm curious as to what the attraction here is.Braedan said:Again, your statement has no counterpoints against abilities of Nintendo to outclass the ps3 in terms of hardware.OutrageousEmu said:Because despite the claims, we're still seeing amazing end results from the old hardware.
Catalyst6 said:I believe the power of the console has a lot of inpact on the third party support. This generation, the Wii has been left out from a lot of multi-platform titles. The generation before that, the Game Cube was usually treated to MP titles. I don't think third party developers will mind making games for all the big consoles as long as they can make good graphics for their games.Irridium said:Hypothetically, at least. OT: While the new system might have good graphics and so on, I have my doubts as to whether it will be worth the money. They'll have to put a lot of money and time into making something along the lines of the PSN or Xbox Live. At the very least it needs to be online without worrying about codes.
The problem I have with the idea of a new system is that the Wii has been kind of... ehh. There are very few Wii games that I feel interested in playing; so much of their stuff is terrible. Not "kiddy", mind you, just *bad*. I don't think that an upswing in power will do a lot to change this, as most of the developers are building on PC or Xbox and will continue to do so, especially considering the power and popularity of the Kinect.

Charlatanry 101: when trying to win a debate, especially a nerd-off, ignore the opponent's assertions and instead argue with something that is not even being contested.OutrageousEmu said:Ah, so its different, because they took the same technology but made it for their console.funguy2121 said:I'm pretty sure 2D joysticks control is digital. When did rumble "come from Sega?" N64 predated by Dreamcast and Saturn, did it not?OutrageousEmu said:So you're saying that Nintendo's technology is going to be inferior yet again.danpascooch said:The timing is what makes the generation, you can't call it a different generation just because they chose not to put expensive hardware in it. The Wii came out to compete with the 360 and PS3, which makes it part of their generation.OutrageousEmu said:The Wii is 7th generation in timing only - its hardware (the thing that defines generations) is purely 6th generation. Thus, this will be them finally joining the 7th generation. As such, its launching to compete with the 360 and Ps3. So it will launch with a higher price point and an install base of zero, versus the Ps3 and 360's 55 million by that point.danpascooch said:What? This doesn't make any sense, This isn't Nintendo "joining" the current generation, that was the Wii, which is starting to fail.OutrageousEmu said:What, before 2005? Even if this is true (which it probably isn't, given how this rumour pops up every single year), this is Nintendo joining the current generation, not starting a new one.Verlander said:Interested. I reckon they announce it at E3, and release it late 2012, before Microsoft or Sony can get to launch.
Which means Nintendo is launching a new console 5 years after the release of the old ones for a much higher price, with a lower install base.
Making a more expensive console is how each new generation comes about, what makes you think it will have a lower install base?
Plus, I haven't seen a single article about Nintendo making a next generation console and I've been reading the headlines on this site every day for two years (two years the day after tomorrow)
Hell, with that logic we could call the N64 not part of the same generation as the PS1 because it was only timing, and was behind in "storage medium" because it used cartridges instead of discs, it would turn the entire cataloger system of generations into a complete clusterfuck.
It hasn't even been announced yet, much less released! This will just be the first console of the next generation, one of them always comes first, just like the 360 came first this generation.Someone doesn't know anything about gaming history.funguy2121 said:No, silly, like how Sony ripped off the rumble pack AND ANALOG STICK for the PSOne. Nearly all major control innovations have come from Nintendo.OutrageousEmu said:You mean like how Sony ripped off the Game.Com for the DS? Or how Sony ripped off the dual thumbstick design for the Gamecube?randommaster said:No, you're thinking of what Sony does..ryai458 said:So, will they copy the 360 or Ps3?
...wait.....
Analog control comes from Atari, Rumble comes from Sega. Nintendo ripped off both.
