After coming back to gaming and playing CnC:Generals, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic and a LOT of Civ4, I somehow ended up in a "game-crisis". I can't figure out what to play next. Hell, I even succumbed to playing fruit ninja on my friends iPad to kill the boredom, despite my hate for all things Apple.

I only know that it should involve swords, singleplayer campaigns that don't put me to sleep, and good combat mechanics.

I also know that I do not want to play anything turn-based for some time.

So please, help me and suggest something that's good, fun and runs on a PC!

So: single-player, fantasy, not turn-based, and good/fun? That's eliminated most of my Steam library. It's mostly strategy games...

What about Torchlight? Or some of the classic RPGs that GOG offer?

If you like the NES Castlevanias check out Fortune Summoners.

Also Recettear and that other hack and slasher from Carpe Fugur is well worth checking out.

If its the a non MMO PC 3D hack and slasher like Devil May Cry you want youre kinda screwed tbh.

There are a couple of Skyrim, Dark Messiah type games unique to PC, Mount and Blade and the Thief series (you might beabale to mod the Thief games if you want better graphics). Dark Messiah might be worth checking out again as the console version is a cut down version of it.

You could play The Witcher 2, that game is pretty solid across the board and the enhanced edition is out now I think, or coming soon anyway.

I played the PC version of Dark Messiah. Great combat mechanics, but a too short campaign to really have fun with them a lot. But thanks anyway ;)

Hmm, for some wierd reason the first title to come to mind is Arx Fatalis. Definitely has swords, campaign was pretty cool and the combat wasn't too shabby (Magic system was fun enough). Think of it as a modern-ish Ultima Underworld if you've played that, and if you haven't maybe take a look at it as well since both are cheap on GOG.

Beyond that, if I was in your shoes I'd probably be in the mood for another run through Icewind Dale. Sure, the story line is a little meh compared to other offerings in the Infinity Engine, but it's still a damned fun dungeon romp (and I think I've logged more hours into IWD than the BG series).

As for newer offerings, well I'm somewhat wary of suggesting titles (or accepting suggestions) that cost more than a pack of smokes unless I'm really familiar with the person and their preferences. I'm sure you can understand.

Firstly, I played Arx Fatalis and kinda stopped in the middle for some reason, can't remember why.
Secondly, go and suggest, money is not a question for me.

Swords, good combat, single player storyline... Skyrim?

Torchlight and Diablo 3 might also be good options, they can be pretty mindless and the storylines can be abit odd from time to time though.

Well, I'm embarrased now. You mention that money isn't an object? That's cool, but this is when I notice that there's nothing in my library of games that fitting your needs that hasn't been mentioned already (Witcher series), console only (Way of the Samurai series), turn based (Wizardry 8), or in my "haven't touched yet" pile and therefore may be complete crap.

With that said, maybe take a look at the Gothic series. The controls in the first one are unintuitive as hell, but the story & setting are really well done. I've definitely heard nothing but good about Gothic II though (and have heard to avoid number 3). I'm guessing the controls were improved (it's somewhere in my backlog), but there is a demo in case you want to give it a spin.

Oh yeah, it's also a ten buck game btw.

Killing Floor has swords, a great co-op (which don't worry, it has a single player version too) setup, and did I mention great combat mechanics? Plus it's zombies, freakin zombies, you can't go wrong with that!

I played Gothic 1-3 and I must say, that I even liked the combat system.
Imho part I was the best in terms of story, setting and characters.
Part II was OK and Night of The Raven was kinda cool, considering there is a mod which is really astounding all other mods for the game dwarf in comparison(RETURNING Mod).
Part III was just BAD. The combat system was crap, the animation of picking up an object is horrible and the way the Hero walks makes me wonder if he took it up the ass too much during his cruise to the mainland.
Also the story seemed quite illogical.

Why in the world the rebels think they have a chance when their hideouts are so obvious, their troops totally weak and even a 5 year old kindergarten student can come up with better revolution plans & fight tactics. Like they never try to wage real guerrilla warfare and just wait for someone to infiltrate the city, kill all the Orcs and then report to them so they can send in some weak-ass guards who will get overrun in 1 minute. At first I was enraged that the player, after 2 part of the game spent killing every orc on the map except Urshak(for he is cool and talks in a funny accent), can join them. That seemed like such a waste to me but in conclusion, that's the better decision after what you learn about the rebels.
