So, we might play as a criminal who uses his Persona for selfish gains? Maybe I'm reading a little too much into that...
More like somebody who breaks taboos and the law to pursue their own idea of "justice" or something along the lines.
Also someone who breaks windows.

I'd find it interesting if selfish criminal activities was what the protag. initially does. But with great power comes great something something.

Well whatever the story will be, I'm interested in the game. I'm trying to be hyped while not too hyped. I think if done right, this could easily top Persona 4. I just don't want to get too excited and build unrealistic expectations. If they still have some type of social aspect, then I will be really happy.

Also, after recently listening to the Dancing All Night theme, I really hope it comes to the states. First game that just the theme alone made me want it.

Hey, here's an interesting blog post by Katusra in case you wanted to add it in the opening post:

I'll definitely add that, thanks.

Also, Famitsu will have info on P5 in their next issue.

DaN has already been announced for a US release.

My biggest worry has been that this would simply be Persona 4.5, but after watching that trailer, my worries were completely squashed. Even if the new ideas or mechanics don't work as well as the mechanics in previous games, I'm still going to play the shit out of this due how much of a breath of fresh air this could potentially bring to the franchise.

@StormShaun: Added things I noticed.
-The twins both have eye-patches and I assume are girls.
-MC's body physically turns into his Persona, kinda like Digital Devil Saga.
-They are fighting Demons/Personas.
-There is a fourth human member of the team that has a tail at the 40 second mark. He didn't show up in combat though.
-I'm assuming Luxuria is the name of the cat and it's apparently independent and can transform into an anthro-chibi cat.
-The date was always at April 11th which is VERY similar to the last 2 games' starting point.
The twins don't have eye patches, if you pause you can see they have both eyes its just dramatic lighting.
Well thanks to pausing that bit I noticed one of them has her hair in a braid while the other is sporting a bun. I wonder what their boss fight will be like O.O

-the cat uses a rolling pin as a weapon, I wonder if the MC will be able to do that?
-What is the significance of yellow eyes in this series? The only people to have them are the attendants and shadows have had them. Why does the MC get the yellow eyes when he uses a persona?
-I did see the fourth character, Im guessing that he is actually a she, based on her frame. It seems very feminine when she jumps off the building.

I love the seventies heist film vibe it has going on, the dungeons look way more engaging, a plus considering they were the least engaging part of the game. I'm not sure how I feel about the first two human party members being blond. Is the girl Irish? she has green eyes and is sporting a four leaf clover design on her uniform. The guy looks like he might be a delinquent, so he may have dyed his hair blonde, we will see.

Really looking forward into getting to enjoy this one without having it spoiled for me by the internet. I'm looking at you Persona 3.

While I loved 4, it's nice to see something very different.

Even if it's like where it's unpolished, I'll still like it. My main concern is that if I get too excited, it might backfire. I've seen to many people get burned on good games because it was hyped too much.

I know man. After last year, which HAD SO MANY promising games, and just ended up being extremely luke-warm, I became very cautious and jaded when it comes to trailers for future releases, but this video hit so many of the right buttons and the fact that Atlus has never disappointed me before (although there's always a first time for everything) has made this game climb up to my number one game I'm looking forward to in 2015.

Its likely his shadow, when it starts transforming, it has the same face as the persona behind the MC in the picture in the OP.

the cat uses a rolling pin as a weapon, I wonder if the MC will be able to do that?
Looks more like a slingshot to me.
Looking back at it, the cat's weapon is actually a cutlass, its just that the model was super wonky, but you see it in the following frames during the all out attack. During the shoot out the cat does have a slingshot and the male party member has a shotgun. Noticed a couple more things.

-When the MC is behind bars the twins are there guarding him.
-The male shopkeeper seems to own an army surplus store. There are company banners, and helmets in the background.
-At 1:59 you can see the portrait of another character before it is replaced by the regular party.
-The female shopkeeper may be a marine biologist, she is looking at x-rays of fish, there is a possible diving suit in the background and the menu's design looks like a DNA strand.

I don't think I have ever wanted a game as much as I want this right now. I don't care what console it's on; I'll buy a PS4 just to play this. As far as I'm concerned Atlus have never made a bad game and I don't see this breaking that trend.
Still, at some point soon I'm going to have to stop looking at pre-release details. I want to experience Persona 5 completely new and unspoiled.

Well, this is a completely unexpected direction. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

So for those that don't know the lore behind Persona and the wild card (ability to have a large number of personas) is that Philemon and Nyarlathotep are in a conflict and each choose champions. Philemon operates through his assistant Igor and chooses normal people while Nyarlathotep usually picks deities. There is a lot more to it than that but that's the basic gist of it.

Where I am going with this is that it looks like Philemon more directly influences this one. The main character's mask is highly reminiscent of Philemon as if he is being directly possessed. I am overhyped.

I think I am going to watch this trailer a dozen times before the end of the day. SERIOUS. FUCKING. HYPE.

I am throwing money at the screen, but nothing is happening :(

This game better hit the fucking States before 2016!

EDIT: A few trailer observations

- They are fighting demon-style shadows instead of the tarot card shadows (this is a good thing imo)
- Looks like you get possessed by your persona in this one
- Velvet prison? Looks like Igor may imprison this thief at some point in the story, probably around the time he awakens to his persona
- Are those twins our new velvet room residents?
- A CAT PARTY MEMBER!

The criminal activity thing for the protag and possibly the party would make sense considering the whole "Want emancipation?" thing previous trailers and teasers had going on.

My hype isn't containable at this point. It just looks so damn good. And the music used for the trailer is deliciously funk-disco-y.

Yep, saw this trailer a few times before. Looks nice.
What I am REALLY interested in, however, is that in this game (at least I think so for now) we won't summon personas, but transform into creatures, like in Digital Devil Saga.

i'm getting a serious Innocent Sin vibe from this... or maybe its just having a blonde chick back as your first chick party member, which is awesome as i loved that crazy Lisa~ though i think this dude being like a junior Kanji rip instead of captain underpants is nice, as i miss a punk being your 'bro' as opposed to the asshats-of-comic-relief like Junpei and Yosuke, loved them, but i miss Eikichi and Masao's style...

and i think the main MC is like what they were originally planning with Naoto, i find it funny he's a cat burglar... and looks an aweful lot like Pharos in that prison outfit~ ;3

also, love the cat thing... cat partner for cat burglars... i approve of this shenanigans!!

and PLEASE!! can we do the Digital Devil Saga thing where they turn into their demons :D i would love you so much Atlus~ DDS is my favorite of all the SMT stuff, but i can see the 'issue' there... hopefully they aren't required to eat their enemies or go berserk because the sun is making weird solar noise... that would be 'bad' >.>

still, transforming into demons, YES!! :D

fighting demons? YES!!

going back to the old school where every high schooler had a gun? why the hell not!! XD

though to be honest the moment i saw those masks i was thinking 'Joker is that you?' and at the end the MC looks an aweful lot like Philomon... so yea, i'm getting a lot more P1/P2:IS/EP vibes from this then strictly P3/P4 'happy fun time' :D

i hope there's Baofu in there somewhere, that would just make everything so much more awesome~ he's a criminal and persona user, they're criminals and persona users, it works~ :D

... Okay, I have to get this cat out of the bag. Saw the Persona 5 trailer... And it's boring. Just as boring as P3 and P4 were to me. I played 3 maybe two hours and never got any interest in buying 4. I loved the first two games, but then... Maybe it's the high school setting? The focus on animeizing it? I don't know.

I love Atlus and I love Shin Megami Tensei, but the Persona series... From 3 onwards it's boring for me. Persona 5 is not even a Dungeon Crawler anymore now, it seems... I mean, is it something with me? Am I the only one who doesn't particularly go crazy for Persona even while being an RPG afictionado?

There's a big divide between the old school hard core SMT fans and Persona fans, due to focusing more on the social, slice of life and high school setting rather than being a hard core JRPG like Nocturne and the other entries into the SMT series. If you didn't like P3 or 4, then I don't really see how you would expect to like this one considering it's being made by the same guy who did those.

Like jhoroz said, 3 and 4 are very different from the others. Nothing wrong for not liking the games. Every one has different preferences. Seems you like dungeon crawling a lot, but in 3 and 4 that takes a back seat to story and the social aspects. You might like Persona Q, because that has all the aspects of dungeon crawling with minimal story. Though if you didn't complete 3 and 4, you will probably not appreciate some of the stuff as much.

Persona takes longer to get to the fighting aspects overall, so you should probably stick with the SMT games.

Oh, no. I love story! It's just that yeah, the High School setting/Slice of life focus really doesn't do it for me. I mean, in the first two the Main Characters were high school students but the story wasn't really about high school. Then third came around and: you stay in the school, adventure in the school and only leave it for social events. Which yeah, didn't do it for me.

What I mean is: this seems to go outside the school setting again and yet from what I see... There's just this feeling to it. Like it's not taking itself seriously. I mean, there was comedy in the first two games too, but the bulk of the story was pretty serious. And it felt serious, from the get go. This looks like a mix between Lupin the 3rd and Cat's Eye in high school... Is it because of the Slice of life aspect of it?

Edit: Also the drawing style. Yeah, the first two still felt like similar in character design to other SMT games. From 3 onwards they went full shonen.
