Yes, the demand is there. But remakes alone do not make a great system.
They remade three games.

Three. 3.

Out of the entire 3DS lineup so far, three are remakes. They system was never riding off them alone.
A brief History of the 3DS Library:
In chronological order, the bestsellers:

-Street Fighter 4 (ported and remade in 3D; not an original title either way)
+Resident Evil: Revelations (godawful, but still original.)
-Ocarina of Time 3D (remake. DOMINATED the sales for the 3DS until October)
-Starfox 3D (remake. Co-launched with "original" titles Mario Kart 7 [which is every bit as stagnant a series I can imagine, but eh, it's original enough for this argument] and Mario Land 3D)

I'll take your point in stride, but those ports and remakes comprise a very large portion of the of the best-selling games, and until October, I could count the number of original 3DS titles I saw and played on one hand.

So you'll pardon me if I don't find your statement compelling in practice here; most of my 3DS run time has been on the Ambassador games and a couple DSi-ware titles.
And it's not that I haven't been looking for titles I want; they just don't fucking exist yet.

Eh, there are new NHL games every year, there is nothing saying Nintendo can't keep doing the same, it's made them money so far. Fanboys buy into franchises they love, it's the reason why any hobby sells anything. If someone would rather play a remake of a game they've already played a dozen times, it's their time and coin to spend ( and collect.)

Honestly, I've never been that much of a fan of the side-scrolling Mario games besides Paper Mario. The 3-D large, open levels have always appealed to me more.

As for the issue of Nintendo and their dependancy on game series, I agree they really need to try something new to get off the kick that's barely (read: Not really) holding the 3DS up. The must own game for the 3DS for the longest time, and really still is as far as I'm concerned, is a remake of a game from over ten years ago. Mind you, I love OoT (though I would prefer a MM remake or at least re-release), but that's been the big game to own since the system really came out. Moreso then Mario 3D Land if you ask me.

And they really are latching to only a few of their franchises to keep hold. Mainly Mario and Zelda. I'd love to see a new Pikmin for Wii or 3DS (I refuse to buy a Wii U until enough games come out to prove it's worth whatever they'll ask for it). But even that's only prolonging the same game.

What Nintendo really needs is a new, non-child/casual oriented franchise. I'm not talking about a game like Call of War 45: Black Hawk Up. But more something that's aimed towards gamers and not something along the lines Nintendogs or Wii Music/Play/Sports/etc. Can anyone tell me what the last franchise that wasn't meant for casual gamers or children was? So in other words, no games involving Mario, Link, Kirby, or any established series. The last that comes to mind for me is Pikmin, which came out more then ten years ago.

Y'know, actually knowing what's coming out as opposed to just instantly going "Nintendo only makes Mario and Zelda!" might help.

OT: I'm looking forward to it. Plus, it being announced is kinda obvious.
Uh, the Fire Emblem trailer is in Japanese...I live in the US.
So unless there's a US localization confirmed for that, that doesn't really mean anything.
Kid Icarus is on the "maybe" list, and I already knew about it (in fact, I already addressed that) well in advance. It's been delayed three times now.

It would help your argument if Nintendo *didn't* already release two Mario games, and is already planning a THIRD Mario game, all in the span of a year and all for the same system.

I've played through all of Super Mario 3D Land, and found it to be enjoyable, if unchallenging and repetitive. Hopefully with this 2D only perspective, a greater variety of levels along with a steeper difficulty curve will color this game as Nintendo allows themselves to work in highly familiar territory.

Isn't out yet. Not a remake.

Sat behind Final Fantasy VII as the most request remake of all time.
Sales figures reflect this. Was completely rebuilt, included an entire New Game + (Master Quest) that mirrored the entire world and changed the puzzles.

Then you're an idiot for buying the system. I didn't buy an Xbox 360 for AU$500.00 and cross my fingers for good games. I waited until it had enough solid games to justify the cost.
The 3DS packed enough titles close to launch for me to be satisfied. Everything else has gone from strength to strength.

I can already see Nintendos fanboys loving this game exactly, because it's too similar to the others.

If I can get some 2+ player action with this without having to shell out $40+ I'm all for it. New Super Mario Bros. Wii was great fun when I played it with my lady.

I am simply tired of Nintendo's increasing reliance on relatively fewer and fewer core franchises.
What happened to the neat newer stuff like Pikmen?
Here you go.

Hell, I'll even accept the middle road if I can get a decent Intelligent Systems game (Fire Emblem or Advance Wars) out of it.
And here ya go

And just for good measure, here's this.

Holy shit, that fire emblem trailer was awesome! I look forward to it's release.

I can already hear Yahtzee and his misguided fanboys whining about this game being similar to previous games in the franchise despite literally no other information being released about it.

Of course, even if it is basically the same game as New Super Mario Bros, I'm still anticipating this. Until the series gets as blatant as the numerous Street Fighter II versions and ports, I'm still buying it, because I actually understand the concept of a sequel (you like a game, and you want another one like it) and know that a game sticking to an established formula that works is better than inventing a new one that may not work at all.

We already have Mario Land 3D, so unless it's another installment in the Paper-Mario family, I don't give a toss.

Nintendo: Make something good other than Zelda, Mario, Pokemon.
And while I'm on the subject: PLEASE stop relying on remakes to push your damn system.
I CALLED IT! Whoooo, I'm the best internet commentator ever!

But seriously, I find it fucking stupid that people constantly rag on Nintendo for releasing games that are similar to previous games, when each new game has something different, be it a power-up, interface feature, stage layout, or method of control.

And you know what? Even if the game is still fundamentally similar to previous games, people will still buy them, because sometimes more of the same is what people want.

Hell, given the sales figures for some of these types of games, I'd say that most people are just fine with more of the same.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that innovation is bad, some of the best games in recent memory are very unique, but sticking to an established formula isn't something to hate a game for. Sometimes, I'd rather buy the kind of game that I know I'd like rather than buy a game that's strange and alien to my tastes.

Go ahead and praise innovation, but don't automatically assume that being less innovative means being less fun. In other words, don't hate something just because it isn't different. That makes you look like an obnoxious hipster. (Redundancy!)

I like Mario games.
I will probably buy this.

Call me a sucker or fanboy, but I still freakin' love the Mario games.

Great music, game design, and a feeling of absolute childish glee that damn near no other game can deliver.

So, you bought Pushmo, Mutant Mudds, and Mighty Switch Force? And I assume you've preordered Xenoblade and made room on your SD card for Dillon's Rolling Western?
