New Soldier Weapon Revealed: The Direct Hit

the Eyelander didn't change the Demoman too much... melee switched with slightly different melee isn't a big change for most classes, but I'm SURE the Targe will.

Trading sticky bombs for a shield will be a very interesting proposition.

This looks like a playstyle adjuster, like the backburner or the Huntsman.

Certain people play certain ways.. some soldiers prefer the thrill of a direct hit and prefer to use the rocket less as a crowd disrupter but more of a single target instagib, like a slow moving sniper rifle.

This is for them, and it's good that they now have the option.

You're right, I should have mentioned the Targe rather than the Eyelander, though I was referring to the two combined.

You are all missing the thing:

Direct Hit is a Primary weapon. Stickies, and the Targe, are counted as secondary weapons (although it's hard to say which one is used more often by the demos).

We still don't know what's the primary bonus weapon for Demos or the secondary for Soldiers.

Hmmmmm I can't help but feel a little sorry for all the Demoman players. They're getting, well, a (absolutely awesome at that) gimmick-ish weapon that has nothing to do with their actual class (I still want to play with it though, badly) and the Soldiers get a new rocket launcher.

Seems a little unfair to me, I hope Valve balances it out a bit, hand out a proper new weapon for the Demoman next and something gimmicky for the Soldier. The bugle perhaps?

This is the soldiers new primary. I'm sure the Demoman's new primary will be equally awesome.
