I always wonder what trailers like this hope to achieve. Like there was the backalash that it looked too much like an action flick, and this trailer is certainly less so.
But those action scenes are still in the movie. So we know its still just an action flick.

It's mad how the original series had more interesting looking alien planets than these new films.

They cut a trailer for people with an attention span. How retro.

Except we don't know it's just an action flick. The presence of those scenes doesn't make it just an action flick. We know there are action scenes in the movie, and really, we should expect that from this series at this point.

Christ alfuckingmighty, if I have to listen to one more hero jabbering on about their fucking parents...

Other than that, it looked okay.

Said planets including:

-Planet that imitates the Nazis
-Planet that is Ancient Rome in the modern day (or 23rd century)
-Planet of the Yangs and Comms, with all the eye-rolling baggage that entails
-Planet that space hippies want to go do, where everything is acidic (which is kind of interesting, however silly the premise is)
-Planet that undergoes parallel planetary development with Earth because of a "Law of Parallel Planetary Development" (yes, really), and is populated by kids who fear "grups"

TOS had plenty of nice ideas and episodes, true, but let's not pretend that some of them weren't outright bonkers and/or poorly written drek.

That said, this trailer doesn't fill me with much confidence either. We have "not Avsarala" instructing Kirk, who gets the Enterprise attacked by "not formics," with said ship boarded by "not Vanir" (or the aliens from Battleship if you want), where on the surface we meet "not Rey" (hey, at least she's an alien this time - seriously, Rogue One irks me for a lot of reasons, but one of them is that it's still playing the "humans only club" card), where Earth is attacked AGAIN. Oh, and a teleporting motorbike. Because a regular motorbike just isn't cool enough.

I quite liked the previous two movies, but this...this is something else. I feel what's most telling is that "Beyond" takes up most of the title card, with "Star Trek" having the size of a subtitle, and that Justin Lin is proclaimed as the director of The Fast and the Furious. A true statement, but not something you'd usually associate with Star Trek.

At this point, as far as sci-fi movies go this year, I'm actually looking forward to Passengers more. :(

Edit: Minor point, but it looks like the original Enterprise is destroyed, yet they get a new ship. Is it just me, or does it look a bit like the NX-class (the ship from Star Trek: Enterprise)? If so, that's kind of a nice touch.

Star Trek Beyond Two Souls. I can't watch the clip yet, so instead that one picture will have to do.
Very...nice...face. Didn't even realise they had a trailer before this one. You can hardly judge any big budget movie film from the trailers alone. They lie, it's what they do best. Whether they gave you the right lies, it doesn't matter...they're still lies! Ok, lie is just an snappier term for misconception here, but screw semantics.

It looks OK.
It feels more like Star Trek than the previous 2 movies.
Given that this time, the screenplay was written with someone with talent, I think this will be the best one of the new series.
It will definitely beat the movie that comes out a week before - Ghostbusters.

Yeah that certainly looks like a NX-01 ship. Interested to see how and why its on that planet.

I'm hoping this means Kirk breaks it out of mothballs and pilots it to rescue his crew. Not quite Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock, but close enough.

How can you say that? It didn't even have the Beastie Boys.

As a long time Trek fan, it pains me to see the series being dumb-down into generic action sci-fi.

Where's the adventure? Where's the sense of discovery? Where's the mystery? Where's the philosophical, political, and cultural posturing on top of the sci-fi action? Where's the suspense? Where's the horror? Where's the sense of hope?

Seemingly gone, thanks to Abrams. Now it's just pew-pew rayguns, whiz-bang spaceships, and cartoony aliens more suited for a Star Wars bazaar scene.

Don't get me wrong. I actually enjoyed watching the 2009 reboot, but Into Darkness was a mess. Abrams even apologized for it. This new film, despite being written by Pegg, doesn't really fill me with much hope for the series going forward.

All that's left is to see how the new TV show turns out...if anyone can even watch the damn thing.

It looked more like the other 'bike' disintegrated from some energy blast.

Yeah, but not everyone on the internet saw the first trailer. And plus, all trailers are is advertising. The fist trailer was made in a cynical, calculated attempt to attract the fans of the Fast and Furious movies to the Star Trek franchise, this one is made in a cynical, calculated attempt to appease fans annoyed by the first trailer.

Personally, I actually really liked the first trailer because immediately I could tell it was directed by Justin Lin, because they edited the trailer to make it seem obvious. I actually don't think the movie will turn out to be the next Fast and Furious (shit, what are they up to now, 8? 9?) but I enjoy the hell out of the trailer. It's probably more F&F-style than the movie will ever be.

But yeah, advertising. That's why cinema companies do anything to do with anything. Advertising.

I'd like a Star Trek movie in which the do what the ship was originally created for.

Finding shit instead of wrecking it.

Yeah, there were a few ropey episodes, although who doesn't love Nazi planet? I was thinking more visually though. The new film is called Star Trek Beyond, which implies that the Enterprise is going beyond the Federation and known space, possibly even where no man has gone before. And the planet in the trailer looks pretty much like Earth. There's a bunch of trees, rocks, mountains. I just think it would be cool to see some really cool looking alien creatures and landscapes, but it all looks pretty generic.

Damn well that was defiantly the NX-01 but I am still annoyed by the fact that this is the third movie and instead of going for a wholly original story they have get again borrowed from TOS.

The third TOS movie had the Enterprise being destroyed and Kirk stealing a ship to go rescue someone.

The third reboot movie looks like it has the Enterprise being destroyed and Kirk stealing / borrowing a ship to go rescue someone.

Looks a lot better than the last trailer, but I'll reserve judgment.

Anyone know who the villains are this time around? I'm just a casual Trek fan so I only know the big alien races (Klingon, Vulcan, Romulan, Borg, etc.)

its the kind of movie that if it had an all female cast, it would have a 90% dislike rating.
I'm sort of shocked that it's sitting at 90% positive, but hey different strokes for different folks. I'm not a fan of it, but that doesn't mean other people might not like it.
