Since my last two gun related threads a new story involving assault weapons has come up.

A felon who was in jail for roughly 20 years for killing his grandmother was released. He then illegally obtained an assault rifle (AR-15 model the same used in the school shooting) and set afire houses and hid waiting for firefighters to come to the scene and he shot and killed two of them. Six houses were lost in the blaze.

What do you think of this?

Clearly they should be issuing firefighters and paramedics with assault rifles.

It's really the only logical solution.

I won't feel safe until everyone has an assault rifle.

obviuosly, the only way to stop people using guns is to give guns to everyone :D

at least this time he obtained it illegally, though im willing to be that means a shady reseller that has obtained the original copy legally.

Posts like this really make me wish this site had a "Thumbs Up" option.

I can't wait until ghouls stop using various psychos thought patterns. People might realize that those with psychosis don't include their fellow citizens and might stop forming bigoted views of their fellow law-abiding citizens. But certain fascists will continue to promote laws that empower the state.

One of those times where you've just got to set your hands down, shake your head and say, "Yeah, that's pretty slick" sadly.

OT: You know, I wonder what sort of debate could be found in ancient times on similar subjects. Were there concerns in Rome about an abundance of Gladius swords for the common man? Was there no such problem? It makes me wonder how civilizations have dealt with the topic before.

And this is news why?

It might be interesting to see how he got an AR but other than that it's just another AKS, American Killing Spree.

I seriously doubt it because

A) Their culture was much less removed from violence then ours. Comitting genocide was status symbol, not a crime.

and

B) A sword does not have the killing power of a gun. Walk into a crowded area with a sword and start slashing, and people are far more capable of both fleeing and protecting themselves then if you walked in with an assault rifle and started shooting.

The only way to save lives is to get rid of all the people, I propose mandatory abortions for the next 70 years then in 100 years the problems will all be solved.

and it happened in NY state, the state that has the strickest gun control laws in the country (which has its own version of the federal assault rifle ban btw, in case people start screaming about that). So strict that barely anyone has a gun....well legally anyways (which is why there are barely any hunters, causing a rampant deer population that kills hundreds of people per year). The illegal owners outnumber the legal ones in NY, it is why crime is such a huge problem here (which goes to prove that strict gun control does not equal less crime, at least here in the US. strict gun control = more crime)

Honestly though, this is more of a "our prison/justice system failed the public" moreso than a gun debate. I mean NY is about as strict as one can reasonably expect without outright banning, and crap like this is STILL commonplace.

And it happened less than 100 miles away from me. Shocked? not in the least. Convicts (at least those that did hard time) are a ticking timebomb. Maybe this could have been prevented with a better rebilitation system, but the public doesnt trust ex-convicts as it is. Any solution would require the public to trust them more.

Also, those firefighters were damn lucky there was an off duty cop at the scene who returned fire. For the first time, there was actually a cop when you needed one! Okay, that one was a joke, i have nothing but respect for cops.

Actually it's not. A man in Pittsburgh, PA, called police to lure them into a similar ambush, and then used a wounded cop to try and lure more cops into the line of fire.

We're all sorry you're bored that another gun-related tragedy happened in America, is there any possible way we can make it up to you? Maybe we should ramp the death toll up a few magnitudes or make all the victims clowns?

Or maybe, and this is just a really out there idea, but maybe you could just read the thread a bit, realize you don't give a shit about killing sprees in America, and then just leave instead of questioning why other people might care about it?
I might point out that Connecticut was the site of America's first mass murder, back in 1780, when Barnett Davenport slaughtered the Mallory family. Amusingly, he beat two of them to death, and then burned the rest alive.

He could have killed more of them, but he had deliberately selected which family members he had wanted to kill, including the children, who were among those burned.

And this was in the days when a good loader could fire three times a min!

No, I'm questioning why people find that there is another shooting in America such a shock or even a surprise.

It has happened before and will most likely happen again, the only point of note was that the killer obtained an AR illegally (which I pointed out would be interesting to see how he achieved such a feat) but such an event is beginning to become the norm rather then the exception.
