Well the cover for Gameinformer was revealed that was promised in that mysterious image last issue:

On IGN they got a bit more details:

From IGN: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/113/1138798p1.html

With Square Enix finally unveiling Lara Croft's next proper console outing, the internet is awash with first details of the series reboot. And despite clamouring on Tomb Raider fan sites earlier this year, there's not a monkey sidekick, voice-activated nap mode or bikini fashion parade in sight.

First information comes courtesy of Game Informer, courtesy of those eagle-eyed scamps on NeoGAF. As rumoured for some time, New Tomb Raider, as we've momentarily christened it, follows a fresh-faced 21-year-old Lara Croft as she fights for survival on a mysterious island.

It seems 'survival' is the core theme this time with an inexperienced Lara needing to find food and water to stay alive, scavenging for tools and gear to augment her abilities, some of which can be created by combining materials at base camps around the game world.

Speaking of which, it sounds like there's much more freedom to explore this time, with players apparently able to carve their own path to the ultimate goal. That said, certain areas of the island will be inaccessible until Lara's physical abilities have evolved sufficiently to proceed. Plus fast travel is available to minimise backtracking.

Noah Hughes of Crystal Dynamics claims Lara will experience an emotional journey as she learns to survive, and weapons sighted so far in concept art include a bow, shotgun and pistol. Apparently too, previous games' lock-on targeting system has been ditched in favour of free-aim combat more akin to Uncharted and its ilk.

Finally, the whole thing employs motion capture, which should make the return of Tomb Raiders classic brutal death animations something to behold. Examples include Lara's legs being pinned to the ground by a large boulder before getting a final send-off courtesy of another to the bonce. There's also mention of Miss Croft getting a good stabbing from a madman who closes her eyes as a final mark of slightly deranged respect. All of which should keep you happy if you enjoy watching bad things happening to pretty ladies.

It all sounds as if Crystal Dynamics is ready to take Lara to the next level and, hopefully, we'll have more news on Tomb Raider soon.

Sounds pretty good...

Base camps, making tools, exploration and survival, and a bow.

They should call it Minecroft.

After 3-4 games, rebooting is fine. Look at Final Fantasy, they reboot everytime :D
I don't get why players rage over them.

Good. This is one series that really needs to be rebooted.
Couldn't the game: Lara Croft and the guardian of light be considered the reboot though..?

Name a more popular game that focuses on these elements and can be made into a Tomb Raider gag.

Going by Crystal Dynamics track record with TR they will probably rape the series harder than ever.

But, its got me intrigued.

If they make the game difficult and not TR for babies i.e all Crystal Dynamics TR games it could have some promise.

For now, I will wait before I initiate further fanboyism.

Sounds pretty decent actually. I still think that they should be making Hitman in stead though.

I shall reserve judgement for now, as I was left bitterly disappointed by Legend and Underworld.

Sounds like they're trying to make it uncharted with Laura Croft instead, but any kinda reboot would be better then shit that's been out last years.

So that's Tomb Raider, Devil May Cry and Zelda that are getting reboots at some point in the near future.

good, that should freshen stuff up a little.

Well the hype train's at full speed already. They better deliver. Focus on making a great game instead death animations. Also, I don't like killing tigers. I know they're digital but.....you know.

But they are Lara biggest enemy. There's got to be a little of tiger killing.

I don't get why players rage over them.
mainly because 9 times out of 10 when they do the reboot they take the 'darker and ediger' approach and inject angst and insecurity up to the hilt, and inthe case of female characters they typically change them into the stereotypical lead girl from a a b-grade horror flick.

who said i was raging, i was merely commenting on the simularities (don't particularly care for the tomb raider series anyway)

final fantasy is also insanely derisive because of the constant rebooting and alternate timelines, its almost impossible to get one person to like more than 2 different final fantasy games, leading to the whole unpleasable fanbase thing
