New Torchwood Trailer Gets a Little Gun Happy

I got really bored of Torchwood back in Season 2. It just seemed so much like it was trying to be 'edgy and cool' that it really turned me off.

Killing characters is not edgy, featuring lots of sex and violence is not cool. It is in fact even more immature than Doctor Who.

I kind of equate it to the sorts of games children would play. Doctor Who is more mature children who have games involving sharing and peaceful outcomes, Torchwood is like six year old boys running around with toy guns pretending to murder half the world. Which is ironic considering who the shows are aimed at.

Edit2: Why does this always happen with ports to America? Shows that start in America are normally awesome! Stargate, Star Trek, Lost etc, they aren't all filled with explosions in their trailers to entice the audience. So why do this?
My guess would be because when something is ported it gets handled by an American marketing team, not an American artistic team. When the showrunner has clout over here they get to set the tone. When the showrunner is a dirty ferriner it's handed to the boys in marketing who only understand guns, boobs, and more guns. And more boobs.

I don't think this pond-hopping is going to be good for these shows artistically speaking. For instance, I wonder how gay Jack will be allowed to be. I've also given up on DW since the Doctor became a bloodthirsty combination of the Master and Davros in the season premiere.

But that's a topic for another thread.

I pretty much thought the same, up until Children of Earth; it stepped the show up into a whole other league. Five hour-length episodes with a great, meaningful story, and it actually managed to pull off being serious, mature, and dark without being tacky. And Peter Capaldi was great in it.

Seriously, give it a try. Doctor Who aside, it's the best science-fiction British television has produced for decades, in my opinion.

Right. I think I'm ok now
Come over to the Dark Side. Let the anger flow through you. Feel the power that comes from unbridled rage.

Well, seeming as torchwood was always the more serious, violent and action orientated brother of doctor who, it almost makes sense that it became somewhat americanised, not to mean that as an insult, America usually does this kind of show better.

Serious? Violent? It needs to be Americanised?

Crossed Dr Who off my list, doing the same to Torchwood as i type.

I wonder how the USA is going to ruin QI. Yes I blame the USA for the decline of UK's ... televised fiction.

"A Starz Original series"? You what now? Looks pretty awful, but then I didn't exactly enjoy seasons 1 and 2 that much, "Children of Earth" was very good and actually felt more 'grown up', was looking forward to more of that, but looks like that isn't happening.

Hope that the BBC never give anyone else a shot a funding Doctor Who.

Hang on. I LOVED Torchwood, but the last series ended perfectly. I wasn't expecting another series and I didn't want one, because it ended so well.

Now, this just reeks of cashing in on the American market, which I just can't stand. When a British programme turns more American without going all the way, it usually fails, in my opinion.

Oh, and if it's released in America before here, excrement will hit the air propulsion device. [sub]I didn't say I didn't want to see it...[/sub]

Only John Barrowman can save us now.
Yeah, since they killed off all the other competent members of his team before exporting... go, John!

Do I see Gwen shooting at someone while holding her baby? Rhys won't be happy with that!

I know that. HOW COULD YOU CLAIM I DIDN'T!

But Rhys was never much into the whole dangerous Torchwood stuff and I'm sure he wouldn't approve of shooting people right besides his newborn.

Why? Why did this have to happen? Why must you ruin us so?
Dammit, you had to post that just as I got the urge to blink! Now I'm screwed...

On topic, I love Torchwood, so I'm looking forward to Miracle Day. And as a Brit I enjoy US shows too. So I don't mind this trailer as such, but it tells us barely anything except "there are guns and explosions and it's awesome", and I personally like a bit more substance rather than style in trailers. I just hope the BBC put one together in a decent style so we actually have a better idea from the trailer of what to expect. You know, aside from Michael Bay-esque cinematography.

Dear Celestia, I hope there's no subplot about it maybe being Owen's child or something.

My faithful student Twilight Quaxar,
Maybe it's some cross pollination of Amy/Amy's Time Lord child and Rhys' to make Gwen pop out a Time Lord baby!

Ok, that's a stretch even by RTD standards!

Naaaah, that'd be the first actual Torchwood DW crossover!
(End of Time doesn't count, that was about ten seconds)

Three damned seasons I was hoping for the Doctor to appear somewhere. I don't believe in crossovers anymore.

Also, that sounds more like M. Night Shyamalan threw up over the season 4 DVDs. <color=white>Possibly after a drinking battle with our Irish-Imperial Scout.
Your faithful student, Quaxy Sparkle.

What about Journeys End? That had Gwen, Jack and Ianto?

Also the end of series 1 of Torchwood/end of series 3 of Doctor Who had Jack disappearing into the TARDIS/running for the TARDIS at the Cardiff rift.
