Oh thank god. My laptop can barely run Fallout 3 reliably, and when I go anywhere but the capital wasteland, I can frikkin forget fighting with anything BUT v.a.t.s. due to the complete lack of framerates
Post-patch, New Vegas is actually more stable on my PC than Fallout 3 and seems to CTD approximately once per 2-3 hours of gameplay (which, let's face it, is "rock solid" by today's standards.)
Quest fixes are many and thorough and I never get the feeling like "that wasn't supposed to happen, was it?" like I did with 1.0.
New Vegas was good, bugs and all, at launch. It's all-time pantheon material now that it's been patched up.
With prior knowledge that Obsidian games are broken at release, I held off buying New Vegas. Now that the patch is out, I am considering it, but I want some feedback first.
Is the game in a playable state at the moment?
I'm looking at the PC version.
Most of the issues are system specific, I've played the game on release and haven't found a single game breaking issue. It crashed maybe once during my whole playtime, but that's about it and some minor bugs were there, but nothing actually getting in the way of my game.
I'd suggest rather than asking for other people's opinions, to go and try the game for yourself before you buy it. It'll give you a good idea of whether you can play the game or not.
Some people complain about the broken parts, and at times they're kind of annoying. But there was one glitch which made me smile.
I'd just hooked up with a prostitute and after hearing sounds that sounded like she was humping a Ripper (well, actually, I call him Mr. Dixie) I got caught in a cycle of her continually asking for sex from my character
"WOW!" I thought "A woman is impressed by my sexual abilities and wants more!"
At the fourth point I got kinda bored but the glitch seemed to change from her being unable to ask for sex, descending into some incoherent murmur occassionally with her saying 'I'm all yours' again and again and again.
"WOW!" I thought to myself again "I literally fucked her brains out!"
Whats that in the sky...its a bird...its a plane. No wait, its a glowing one...and for some reason the game shows it killing me with radiation and I hear running. This is just one of the many problems I have had. Mostly crashes and immobile, invulnerable enemies.
I love fallout (fallout 3 is one of my alltime favorite games), but this game is broken. PS3 btw.
I don't know if I was lucky or what, but even before the patch on the Xbox 360 it played beautifully and had only one freeze after I had played for about 6 hours straight which happens all the time with other game also when played for a long time. :/ So after patch it works almost flawlessly minus the odd rifle hovering over you when you crouch but since I play in first person rather then third person it doesn't bother me much. Don't know about any of the other platforms but I hear that ps3 got the short end of the stick and still has massive problems.

I can't speak for PC, but here's the deal from me on the PS3. There have been a couple of patches and I don't know what they fix. I only know that I've been having a pretty good time here. I have not, on any occasion, had a game file go corrupt and unplayable. I also took Bethesda's personal advice to me and let the auto-save take care of most of my saving so that I don't get a glitch like in Fallout 3.
When I was playing through Fallout 3, I found that the game froze alot in an area - always the same one - outside of Girdershade. I called Bethesda about it and they had never heard a report like this, but they suggested that continually saving over the same file alot will do things to the save file. Fair enough.
Things I have noticed... I think there's a glitch where the game thinks I still have longer surveilance (courtesy of ED-E) when he's been dismissed from my team, because I'll come across something and then the thing will vanish from my redar and then reappear as I get closer. Sometimes, the auto-save saves me where I WAS and not where I am. This is fixed by hitting the WAIT button, saving your current position.
One thing the game is NOT doing that DID happen in Fallout 3 was how an enemy might appear right next to you out of nowhere, as if by magic. It has not done that to me at all.
Another important thing! I HAVE had some freezes, but I know why they happen. At certain points where the game loads the details of the landscape, it kinda' chokes on all the movement and terrain that's happening at the time. When it slows down the game but recovers, it will probably freeze later. Saving, quitting, and getting back into the game puts things in order. I have not, however, had any severe difficulties yet.
