I couldn't fight them either, so i just used a Stealth Boy and snuck past them.

Stealth is your friend!
Yes, this is important. Always have some stealth boys with you. They can get you out of a lot of bullshit situations. I would have never gotten out of Vault 11 without one of them. Shame the Brotherhood of Steel decided to steal all of mine, along with everything else I stored inside ED-E.
You do realize that there is a chest just outside of the door that you had to go through to get to the BoS containing all the stuff they took. If you haven't all ready I'd recommend you go back and have a look around.

No, what I meant was when I gave them ED-E, they got rid of everything I had stored inside of him. I didn't think the developers would be dumb enough to have ED-E's inventory reset when they gave no warning that this would happen.

So after finding the "Oh, Boy!" (a massive, powerful hammer), I've been one hit killing Cazadores. Ohhhhh...sweet revenge.

I'm more annoyed about the major boost they gave to giant radscorpions with their armour, in Fallout 3 I'd go radscorpion hunting on purpose just so I could sell their poison glands. In New Vegas, radscorpions seem to run mostly in packs and giant ones are an absolute ***** to kill, especially when you're saving your anti-armour rounds for more challenging enemies.

And I'm just wondering about all those people who are complaining about Deathclaws and Cazzadors in early game (i.e. level 1-8): What, did you guys ignore the fifteen "STOP, DEATHCLAWS HERE" signs or did you take it as a challenge?

I have been very lucky in my wanderings and haven't run into any insta-kill enemies. it seems like where ever I head somewhere off the beaten path, I will see a sign that says, WARNING: DEATHCLAWS AHEAD and I turn the fuck around

Nothing kills my immersion faster than hitting an invisible wall.
Although I really loved NV so far, I agree with you. F3 had little to no invisible walls within the game world, NV seems to use them all the time when then want to corral you somewhere.
Like corraling me into Primm Pass whereupon a Blind Deathclaw ended my Lv15 Combat Armor Mk2-wearing character's life in three easy swipes. Yeah. Exploration ain't rewarded in New Vegas. It's much more linear than it lets on.

Putting ridiculously strong enemies near the starter town is never a good idea. Even if they stay were they are supposed to be, it makes the player feel limited about where they can go right at the start of the game.
I agree. In fact, the opening position for New Vegas is EXTREMELY limiting not just because you have Deathclaws and Giant Scorpions carpeting the area just to the north, but also because you're smack up against the western side of the map. That's a full 270 degrees of "wide open spaces" that you're prevented from exploring right from the get-go.

The rest of the game world seems to be built something like a large intestine, following the 15 south and then the 95 north to Vegas itself (if you're paying any attention to the central RevengeQuest). The wide-open feeling of the DC Wasteland is ironically missing in what should be the wide-open spaces of Nevada.

I really can't wait for DLC and/or mod expansions to open up the New Vegas map a bit more.

All of what you are saying is true. But it doesn't negate my point about the advice of the Townsfolk being vague, and that tons of animals can fit under that label.
Tons of animals, and some people too. Who may or may not be animals.

I have leveled up. This isn't my first RPG. I'm a Bethesda vet. If no one else is experiencing this, then I'm wondering if this is a bug. 8 Strength, 84 in melee and my attacks are barely hurting them. Weapon is in great condition as well.
While I *can* kill them I can't take on more than a couple at once. I use my mighty Unarmed skill of 19 lol mainly because my weapon of choice barely scratches them unless I get a sneak attack. I'm playing Hardcore/Normal wish I had the time to waste to play on a harder difficulty but I can only play a couple of hours a day maximum.

Alright, I just scanned through the whole thread and no one has posted mentioned antennas. There is a very simple and hilarious way to kill Cazadors. Cripple their antennas.

They are one of a few types of enemies that can be frenzied, like auto-turrets and fire ants. Once they are frenzied, they will not attack you exclusively, but anything around them, like their own kind. Plus if non-frenzied Cazadors are attacking you, they will stop to attack the frenzied one.

So, use the cowboy repeater, and use VATS. When you see them coming, aim for the bigger ones first, and frenzy as many as you can. This leads to a big cluster-fuck with you picking off the stragglers.

those bugs can be annoying if they come at you in 3's but i just have the first recon guy with me to highlight them from afar, 10 perception, a silenced sniper rifle, and rex to tank some damage and i wreck them. i always aim for the wings because they are the biggest target and without them you could walk away from them if they could get close.

i notice most people having problems with these things are goin toe-to-toe with them in melee and thats like attacking a herd of deathclaw face-to-face, its pure suicide

This entire thread scares me. Honestly now, not as fanboys of the game (being a fanboy seems to be the only reason I'd buy the NV monstrosity at this point) but as consumers and reviewers. Is it worth buying now or should Ijust wait for a GotY/Platinum Hits Edition? I'm considering waiting anyways just so I don't have to spend another $50 on DLC, just like in F3...

Let's all share our tales of exploration, because I know I can't be alone. You're exploring, as you're wont to do, and you encounter some critters. The game calls them Cazador, but I know some Fallout version of the Wicked Witch of the West has sent them to fuck up my plans of discovery. Though, wielding my trusty lead pipe, I can take a man's head clean off in one fell swoop, these insect fiends laugh at my apparently not so mighty blows. Yes, I swear I hear them laughing. Or is it me losing my mind because all I've eaten for weeks is gecko steak?

So I've turned the difficulty down. Way down. They still kill me. So what are your stories of Obsidian's ridiculously over-leveled creatures thwarting your exploration attempts?

Edit: I feel like I need to add that I do like that the game adds these areas. I'm not complaining, it just caught me off guard because I'm used to Bethesda's system of enemies scaling along side you.
I too have encountered these creatures. Nasty little buggers. Fast, deadly and always in packs. I remember one time on my way to Ranger Station Foxtrot. I was playing on Hardcore mode. It seemed easy enough. The ranger station looked close on my map and the Archimedes II made quick work of most of the first group. However after an exhaustive fight with a second group I hit my first snag. A mountain between me and the Ranger Station and no path between. I had to go around. What followed was easily one of the toughest experiences I had in any game. The way around was plauged by these things. By the end I was hurt, crippled, and dangerously low on ammo for any of my "effective guns." If it wasn't for Boone and EDE I might not have made it.

In Fallout 3, a group of 3 death-claws killed my father after we had left the simulation vault.

Had to restart the whole goddamn GAME because they were always there, no matter what I did.
Couldn't you just open the console, click on them, and use the 'kill' command?
... Plus he's an essential character.. he can't die.

If you really wanna explore everything from the get-go, just pack up with stealth boys and go, grab the super mutant companion as well to make em last longer and you're on your way.

Fact is, it'd be boring as hell if every zone was available from the start, most people enjoy a certain amount of challenge and can therefore stick with the zone difficulty from the start. The Oblivion way of leveling everything with you is... okish, but not exactly perfect, because it diminishes the atmosphere from the world...

You know that thing Yahtzee said about why he doesn't like Splinter Cell games? Cause they're made in a way that the world in them practically exists only when Fisher's around? Kinda the same stuff with difficulty and leveling the mobs, if everything just scales with you, than nothing's ever a greater challenge, nothing's ever off-limits and there's no sense or point in leveling because you're just leveling for the sake of it rather than gearing up to go somewhere more important and therefore, more awesome.

On topic, I haven't really explored much... following the main quest for now with some side quest stuff, though I'm having a bit of difficulty seeing the supposed line I'm supposed to move down through. Waiting until I pick up some perks and weapons (mainly the sniper rifle as it's my usual weapon of choice, currently just using a Varmint rifle with a scope and it's nowhere near the same) as right now most of my combat is saving my ass rather than playing my preferred predator style where I'm hunting down the mobs and not the other way around.

If you're going melee, you should head out to the area around the South Las Vegas Ruins and find some guy wielding a golf club, that thing is pretty beastly for a melee weapon.
