It's not even the issue of rap, if done right you can pull it off (see: Gurren Lagann, even if the actual rapping is kinda hilarious, it fit) it's just... what does that have to do with Voltron?

Well, that was painful. I was never into Voltron when I was younger and this did not leave a good impression.
Goddamn, I thought they learned their lesson during the late 80's and early 90's. I bet the execs behind it still throw around phrases like "urban audience" and "NUD". Not everything has to be turned into a rap song to appeal to "kids these days"!

Voltron suffers way too much from the nostalgia syndrome, just because you liked it when you were 10 years old, doesn't mean that you would like it now. Christ, I watched a DVD of He-Man: Masters of the Universe and the original Transformers series last year, it was the biggest pile of crap I ever saw. The animations are poor and re-used, the story makes no sense whatsoever and basically repeats itself every episode.
Guess what? All you original series Voltron lovers will not enjoy the new series, because it is marketed at kids of this day, not a 35 year old with pink nostalgia glasses on. They do not owe you anything, in any way, to make this series a carbon copy of the old one (I am not even sure if that would work).
