So I just bought Prototype, it cost 39.99 USD new, while it cost 5 dollars less used. Although I could have saved like 5 dollars, I didn't think it was much of a difference. Seriously, if I don't have the original case and booklet it feels less satisfying than owning a new copy. Also, it may seem insignificant, but I hate buying used games from Gamestop and then having to try and rip off the used stickers, they stick too well to the plastic and leave marks. Lastly, I hate the fact that although I paid for a new game, it was already fucking opened, the case was slightly worn and the goddamn disk itself had small light scratches.

Do you think it is worth buying the new or used games if they are only around 5 dollars (US prices) cheaper or more expensive? Which do you prefer if the difference in price is that small?
I try and not buy used games, mainly because the game company's don't see any money from them and is a pure profit making by the game stores. It is just as bad as pirating, just you pay for it!

I've only bought one game new...Mass Effect 2

I get most of my games on eBay. Mass Effect 2 is also the only game I've spent more than $25 dollars on.

If you buy used always ask to look at the disks bottom. If it's not to bad take it. Save the extra bucks.

Personally I like having a new game. I agree with the sticker dilemma and having a fresh game case but sometimes sixty bucks is too much. I understand the price is that high so the company can make a profit, but being a younger gamer i have other priorities than just games so sixty is a lot.

Personally i believe if it is in there used it was put there for a reason. its just a whole experience thing when i bought a used game(star-wars battlefront 2) for the PS2 its didn't work si i went back and they said they couldn't do anything about not even a refund so that is why i don't buy used games because they are put therefor a REASON.

Well it's not as bad as priating, simply since money exchanged hands. It's barely bout as bad as renting them. Thing is it's been said, a customer has the right to sell any media they have once to another person. That extends to oh, Game stop. Recycling at it's finest. But the companies are cracking down with keys on multiplayer more and more. And reguardless of their license agreement, they can't make demands that over shadow the right for the owner to sell the media no matter how much mumbo jumbo they add into a legal disclaimer. Sorry can't make someone sign away their rights, matter of fact can't make a contract like that period.

Like...I was done with the game and it wasn't returning any of my investment just sitting there. There are games I replay, but if I know I won't ever replay it (even if it was a game I loved), I sell it as soon as I can.

I generally spring for buying new games, but if the difference between them is ridiculous, I'll go for a decent used copy.

I buy the used ones, since there's literally no difference and it's 5 dollars cheaper.

It depends, if it's insignificant like 5$ then I would generally go for the new copies, just for the new feeling. But if it's a nice deal on the used then I'd go for the used. Although I always go for used when I'm poor.

I guess not. As long as it still works and comes with the original content, I'm not sure why it should.

If you're worried about the game not working then not at all. I once found a game in the middle of the street covered in dirt and scratched to shit. I took it home rinsed it off applied the magical CD fixing solution (vasaline) and presto free game for me. I've never met a CD that vasaline couldn't fix. so there's nothing to worry about from used games.

just an afterthought, if anyone tries this make sure you rinse the vasaline off first lol.

For games and movies, I only buy used for things I don't give a shit about. Buying used only supports the bastards ripping you off by charging way more to you then what they paid the boor bastard who traded it in.

Buying new supports the developer, and if it's a good product, they deserve it. Hell, on the developers side of things, buying a used game is no better than simply pirating it. Either way they're not getting any more money for it.

I don't buy a game unless it's $50 or below these days, and up until the other day I hadn't been burned by buying preowned.
Last week though, I bought Fable II from JB Hi-Fi preowned, got it home and it didn't play on the 360, I took it back and they gave me another copy that the disc looked even worse, so i just got my $40 back and I've taken that as a sign that I'm not supposed to play Fable II. Apart from that, never been burned buying preowned.

I buy new or I don't buy. Developers see none of the money from used sales and if you aren't supporting the developer to make more games then why waste money on it at all?

If a game isn't worth the price of buying it new, it's not worth buying.

You don't have to own every hyped game ever made. Most of them suck anyways. Fortunately, I have friends that I can rely on to either tell me how much a new game sucks or let me borrow it and experience the suck for myself. I enjoyed video games a lot more before everyone got obsessed with ePeen graphics. You still find the occasional gem but most of it is just giant turds polished to look like gems.

New dammit! I don't want someones old game in my console! Actually more so for PS3. I'll buy pre owned games sometimes for 360 but never for my PS3. I guess it's because it looks nicer to I treat it better. haha

I always buy used when I can but from a reputable place that guarantees the disc. I finally made the upgrade to PS3 last summer so I have very few games and I am behind on all my favorite titles, so if I buy used I can get 2 for the price of a new game. I am picky though I like to make sure I get the book and a case that is not trashed, I get the more sticky stickers off easy with some rubber cement remover.
