They should call it the XBOX 360 No Scope.

I seriously couldn't care less about the new xbox specs - I'm looking forward to my OUYA - it's got a great name... Sounds like the Coolaid guy.

It's just another attempt at copying Apple. It's kinda sad really. And they actually said that they want to be like Apple. You can Google it. So, where Apple has iStuff, Microsoft will have X-Stuff. I don't really care, but it's pathetic.
Lets hear some of these fantastic name's you've got in the bag then? People always rag on large companies just for the sake of it. The fact is the masses love apples branding it's part of the reason they make so much money, so why isn't Microsoft going to work along the same vein.

Seriously you come up with an idea that within one letter of reading most of your target audience will give you brand recognition.

Ugh I'm not liking all this hub rubbish.

I just want a damn games console, not a 'media hub' with a ton of shitty tablets and phones connected to it where I can listen to music, while browsing the web, while updating my twittosphere with a photo of my latest meal, while talking with friends on facebook, while looking at the leaderboards, while I chat to my friends over XBL while I play a game.

I just want to play the freaking game. I've got my PC and my phone to do all the other crap.
You know the amazing thing with added features is that you DON'T have to use them if you DON'T want to....Where as if they don't do these things, the people who do want them will be unable to do that stuff, see how that works?

Did you ever think there are people other than you with other needs? Look at it like this, the more connectivity features etc etc the more money comes into the games industry, the more money they are making the more risk's chances they will be willing to make on different ideas and games etc. Everybody wins.

Why XBOX? Why not X-Sphere? or X-Cylinder?

Honestly, if it does become that, just please stop turning the Xbox into a hub, as others have mentioned.
I still want an Okama Gamesphere. That'd be pretty awesome.

OT:
Never really got into Xbox or the 360. I likely won't get into the 720 / XboxNexGen / NexBox or whatever they want to fuckin' call it. And while I did get the PS3 to enjoy some different experiences that the Wii wasn't offering, it wasn't impressive enough for me to consider buying the PS4 when it comes out (not when the WiiU has actually been pretty cool and I still have a damn fine gaming PC for anything not on the WiiU). So, yeah, not overly concerned with what Microsoft decides to do next. Wish they and Sony would do something more unique though. Kind of miss the days when it was just Nintendo and Sega doing weird but "innovative" shit on their consoles all the time to keep things interesting. Now things seem just predictable and boring, ya know?

Not bothered by the names really, they have already got me hooked in with their branding tbh, now I've built up a network of friends etc on live, gamerscore and so on (did used to be a big PS player but they lost me with the ps3) yes so they could call it the gyrating s*** machine for all I care.
I'm with you on that one. I was a die-hard PS2 fan, but after the 360 came out I realised just how utterly horrendous the Playstation controller is, with the PS3 being even worse than predecessors. Stupid flappy-paddle triggers, zero attempt to mould it to the shape of the hand, so light you can snap it in half...

Yeah, I won't be going back to Sony :p

Bah rumours, just hurry and release an official spec so we can all tear it apart Microsoft. Go on, tell us it's got twice as much total RAM as the 360, a whole freakin' Gigabyte this time!

The other thing is they keep saying developers are only just now taking the 360 to 100% capacity in what it can achieve so how are developers going to feel when its this much more powerful?
That, as they say, is a load of marketing hooey.

Take for example, Battlefield 3, that needs to letterbox (as in have lines of dead pixels at the top and bottom of the screen) and run special low-resolution textures just for the Xbox to run it at all. Other games such as Rage, Crysis/2 have encountered similar problems. So 100% of Xbox 360's capability was reached some time ago, the problem now is making stuff happen within that given performance.

It is is like I-something, but better there is 2 of them and they are drunk and leaning on each other's shoulders forming X. HOW ORIGINAL! It is like no one thought this before.

Now only thing left to see is that are they going to try to copyright X and sue everyone who has product that starts with X. (Porn industry is so going to suffer). Just like our dead MAC tried with I.

Wonderful...

But I am still sticking to my PCs

Solve Media: total shamble - agreed!

The most amusing thing about all this is the original Xbox name is actually a non-name because they couldn't think of anything better.

During development the console was known inside Microsoft as the "DirectX box" (because it was based around DirectX graphics etc. from Windows), which tended to get abbreviated to "Xbox" in memos and emails.

They spent a lot of time and money trying to come up with a proper name for the final product, then just gave up and called it Xbox :)

I call my PS3 a 'playstation' not a 'playstation 3' or 'ps3' so I think this is actually fine. Saves having the 4 syllables that aren't really that important.
