You know, I thought it was a really early April Fool's joke til I saw this trailer:

I am not sure what to think....it does seem kind of "off". I mean, characters like Link and Spawn are one thing, but this...

I've always like Soul Calibur for the story as much as the fighting, but where do you begin with those two...

FAIL FAIL FAIL!
I hate when licensed characters get put into fighting games, they are always just barely tacked on the game and unbalanced. A perfect example is the spartan from DOA, now if your saying "I liked the spartan" Its because they were to strong. The Spartan character in most DOA tournaments are banned because its a "I win" button and totally does not fit in the game. Now soul caliber did take some tekkin characters and put them in but the tekkin characters are an exception they fit perfectly in the game so much so that if someone played SC first then played tekkin they would have it backwards. These two new characters are a gimmick to promote the game nothing more, and I for one am not more excited because of their inclusion.

I've been lurking around this website for a while now without registering, but I just had to comment on this. I'm a huge Soul Calibur from way back and just had to say...

This is both hilarious and awesome!

I think it would be fun in versus mode to have the ultimate Jedi battle of all time, seeing as Star Wars has never had a decent fighting game despite light saber battles just begging for one, but these guys popping up as your progress through the game would be obviously a bit weird.

Of course now Namco is saying Yoda is exclusive to Xbox, and Vader is only for the PS3, which kills the whole idea.

Well, unless they tell the most twisted and interesting story ever, I don't think they'll fit in. The side of me that wants to have a good Star Wars fighting game couldn't care less, though.

I like the look of vader though... but wouldn't hislightsabre cut through everything? You could win the game in a sec.

I think this is utterly retarded, but if one of Vader's grabs is force choking people then I'm in.

I see now why every female is scantily clad then... But really, if you think your game is good, it doesn't need some boobed monster or slut to actually sell...

I guess i'll with a quote from yahtzee saying 'it's a cynical emphasis on pandering to te aforementioned pocket mining demographic'...

Wait, where did you get "why every female is scantily clad" from? All I see is his argument that the characters are simply gimmicks that may completely unbalance the game due to unreasonable strength or broken combos.

Well yeah, but then if you got hit with a sword the size of Nightmare's you wouldn't be happy about it, so complaining about "realism" is a bit of a forlorn hope.

That was me, ranting. Allthough a game can be good, sometimes they do go overboard with clothing for the female species of the humans. Sorry for that, but it annoys me at times. It's jus me, though, that i just don't like how marketing sometimes works and i'm kind of naive, or something else.

It's just that i don't like marketing when it does that kind of thing, i think i'm just biased.

I was just wondering where you got sexism from that post. Still, I do agree that some female costumes in those games is simply rediculous. "I'm about to go into battle against a heavily armored man with a gigantic sword, so I think the best armor is a string of purple floss that with ride up my ass crack and barely contain my massive boobs. All set! Time for jumping jacks!"

However, I only have a problem when this type of character costume is used with someone who's backstory would seem to hint towards more rational garb (seriously, why the hell would a Elizabethian style princess wear a bikini?). If I'm fighting a vampire or stripper type character, I expect more seductive clothing as it would be natural for such a character. I just want outfits kepted in context.

I'm also wondering why the hell this conversation came about from an announcement about male Jedi's entering a fighting game.

I did it because the guy i quoted said it was more for promoting the game. So i started ranting on marketing i guess.

But enough of that, let's return to topic.
